Supreme Court Will Rule On Gay Marriage Nationwide

Up until now, the Supremos have been assiduously avoiding the issue — so the unexpected announcement that they are taking up the issue is a huge deal:

The Supreme Court on Friday agreed to decide whether all 50 states must allow gay and lesbian couples to marry. The court’s announcement made it likely that it would resolve one of the great civil rights questions of the age before its current term ends in June.

The justices ducked the issue in October, refusing to hear appeals from rulings allowing same-sex marriage in five states. That surprise action delivered a tacit victory for gay rights, immediately expanding the number of states with same-sex marriage to 24 from 19, along with the District of Columbia.

Largely as a consequence of the Supreme Court’s failure to act in October, the number of states allowing same-sex marriage has since grown to 36, and more than 70 percent of Americans live in places where gay couples can marry.

The pace of change on same-sex marriage, in both popular opinion and in the courts, has no parallel in the nation’s history.

Based on the court’s failure to act in October and its last three major gay rights rulings, most observers expect the court to establish a nationwide constitutional right to same-sex marriage. But the court also has a history of caution in this area.

The court will be ruling on a case out of the state of Michigan that upheld a ban on gay marriage in four states (the others being Kentucky, Ohio and Tennessee):

For Michigan, the Supreme Court will take on a Hazel Park couple’s case in which they are asking to overturn the state’s ban on same-sex marriage.

The case will be argued in April and a decision is expected by late June.

This I believe will pass and I never do watch faux entertainment, but I will the day this decision is made, I just love comedies.

We’ll see which ones truly believe in equal rights for all and which ones just pay lip service to it, that’s for sure.

Scalia for sure will side with the homophobes.

This will come down to Kennedy and Roberts. One of them should do it. Roberts went the right way on the ACA in part because he knew voting it down would trash the Court’s reputation and enhance their image as defenders of privilege.
My money is on him to do the same this time.

I sure hope so. I don’t see why people make such a big dal over same-sex marriage. They deserve the misery of divorce just like the rest of us:-)

Their previous inaction got their collective ass backed into a corner on this one. They HAD to rule. About time they did their job. I look forward to June.

I just pray they don’t rule against it. It is a very real possibility. Unthinkable, but real.

SCOTUS’ 2013 ruling mandated equal marriage nationally in 36 states plus D.C., and more than 70% of Americans live in places where All couples can now marry. Except in constitutionally illiterate dumbfuckistan where they have no idea what the 10th, 14th and any other “well regulated” amendment ruling means e.g. 2000+ federal benefits are only available via Equal marriage (Robert Snyder from PA.)

GOP devotees still have no idea they’re always errantly led-on by xenophobic Big Oil Billionaires, always conning them into voting against their own & everyone’s best interests.
