Giuliani And Others Should Look In Mirror

In the wake of criticisms of President Obama and Mayor de Blasio for allegedly stoking anger at the police, Brian Beutler reminds us that one of Cliven Bundy’s followers killed two officers in June.  And Republicans (rightly) rushed to excuse their support of Bundy for the actions of a madman.  Beutler argues that the claims that Obama and de Blasio are responsible for the tragedy in Brooklyn are far worse:

Liberal political leaders in America don’t lionize fringe figures. Republicans treated Cliven Bundy like a martyr until an embarrassingly predictable racist outburst made him politically radioactive. The right wing demands this kind of genuflection; the left does not.

When Obama or de Blasio or Al Sharpton says young black men should consider Second Amendment remedies to their Fifth Amendment grievances, then we can condemn liberals for engaging in irresponsible rhetoric. The irony is that in attempting to hold a mirror up to liberalism, Giuliani, Lynch, and other likeminded critics became the only mainstream political figures in the country to serve up reckless rhetoric since Michael Brown was killed four months ago.

Its quite simple – the Republicans represent the convergence of the policies, culture and philosophy of the Nazi Party of the 1930s and 40s. The Democrats represent the policies, culture and philosophy of the Nazi’s victims. The Republicans just can’t admit they lost the war. They lost and they will continue to lose.

All of the rhetoric being dispersed by Guiliani, Lynch, and others on the right serves one main purpose—to shutdown any/all discussion that throws light on the fact that all Americans are not treated the same. They have a vested interest in preserving the status quo because it provides them with financial, political, and social advantages that most other Americans don’t enjoy, and it’s quite obvious to me that they aren’t above using race to preserve these benefits for themselves and their buddies. Although neither the president nor Eric Holder has encouraged any American to take up arms against other Americans, Guiliani and his cohorts know that if they blame them for these two cops’ murders, at least 20-30% of Americans will make the connection between their race and then make the leap Guiliani and Co. want them to make—that this issue is about race and not equality and justice, when it is most definitely about the latter.
