Police Investigating After Officer Swinging Baton At Protesters Is Caught On Camera

Los Angeles police are investigating an officer’s use of a baton after he went batshit crazy on demonstrators during a South L.A. protest, an incident which was captured on video by cellphone and posted to YouTube.

NBC reports, “The nearly six-minute video titled “#LAPD Brutally Violent Arrest #LA2Ferguson Monday Dec 1″ was posted Dec. 2 and shows a crowd protesting the recent deaths of black men at the hands of police.”

A protester can be heard yelling through a megaphone to “stay together” while motorcycle cops in riot gear ride up to the demonstrators.  In the background, officers are seen standing over a man on the ground as one protester screams, “What the f— are you doing?”

Protesters gather around as several officers kneel down on the man and hold him to the asphalt.

Another officer steps forward with his baton and begins to swing it at a group while police instruct the protesters to “get back.”

Protesters can heard shrieking and screaming as the baton swings.

Watch:

LAPD Cmdr. Andy Smith confirmed to NBC on Tuesday that the department is investigating the confrontation.

“Internal affairs is conducting the investigation,” Smith said. “We investigate all complaints, regardless of the source.”

Just for fun, you should check out the comments at NBC under their article. They amount to,”‘the protesters got what they deserved.”

I like this one, “Looks like they got what they deserved. Your right to protest ends where my right to peace and quiet begins.”

Americans do not have to go through commenter David Wilkinson before exercising their First Amendment rights.

Or Steven Miller who wrote,”Now they’re complaining when officers are just swinging at them?”

Well, our First Amendment rights seem to be at the mercy of the police and the authorities more and more.

causing a problem by running up very close on a motorcycle, intimidation and implied threats then an actual beatdown.

Well one cop realized another one had lost his cool. So he’s identified. Guess we’ll just have to get em fired one abusive cop at a time. He needs to be charged with assault.

Police are under no obligation to protect the public, their job is to enforce the law. And to protect the interests of the state by avoiding class action lawsuits against the state by killing rather than injuring suspects. Police will fire 100 shots at suspect to make sure they are dead rather than having to face an injured suspects lawyer in court. Now you know.

I think it’s time the people force congress and the courts to re-think this ruling and its effects. It’s painfully obvious!

Well, where are all the people who were shoving their rights as Americans to Jr. and shadow prez Cheney and being told that if they didn’t agree with them that they were “Un American”? They’ve militarized the police and the Pentagon is still giving and selling excess equipment to small town police.

I just read in Illinois they make it illegal to film the police like that, will that law spread to other states? Then the days of being able to film these clips are soon over.
