The President And Malia Obama Bust On Chuck Todd’s Book Cover

An amused yet unamused Malia said “How is he writing a book already?”
Then, they discussed the solitary-looking photo on the book’s cover:
Obama “Look, he’s lonely.
Malia: “Sad.”
Obama: “Looking alienated…oh my. He’s so sad.”
Malia: “It’s just, like, a sad photo.”
Cashier: “They tried to find the saddest photo they could”
The exchange was a bit of a glimpse into how the President and his kids deal with the often-critical narratives that are the lifeblood of the Beltway media. Todd’s tome (which I haven’t read yet) is known as a rather intensely negative portrayal of Obama’s presidency, so much so that The New York Times‘ book reviewer noted that “If the president reads Mr. Todd’s new book ‘The Stranger,’ it’s hard to imagine him wanting to return to the (Todd-hosted Meet The Press) program anytime soon.”
Speaking of which, though, the President’s checkout counter chitchat would seem to indicate…READ MORE

It seems like the basic meme coming from the consummate Washington insiders who make up the beltway media is that elected Democrats are not getting the message from the American people that they are sick of Washington insiders who ignore the issues that are important to the rest of the American people, and that Obama is a failed president because he is a Washington outsider who failed to schmooze with the Washington insiders who don’t care about the issues that are important to the rest of the Washington outsiders….. the American people.

And of course the insiders try to reinvent themselves as outsiders at election time…

My main complaint is with the media.
Stan Opotowsky of ABC News, about the journalistic elite;
“They just don’t come in contact with people not in their [income] bracket. They’ve lost touch with their community.”

I agree. I’ve been paying attention since JFK was elected (I was 9) and I remember real journalism. You don’t see much of that anymore, and it’s not encouraged. It saddens me. Sometimes I just have to take a break from all of it, I get so angry.

Now, it’s just there to deliver viewers and readers to advertisers.

True that. I once had a local news “reporter” tell me that in almost those exact words–and he said it like it was a good thing.

I love how the cashier chimed in…
I have a feeling that President Obama is going to have a BALL as a former president! He’ll be able to let us in on all the things he was tempted to say, but bit his tongue instead. It should be a scream. Imagine his take on Palin and Cruz, and that sad clown Boehner.
jasperjava November 30th, 2014 at 19:18
The President is a class act, so I expect that he will remain above the fray. But he’s a witty character, and I can see him making wickedly pointed comments without a hint of arrogance or bitterness (unlike Cheney, say).
arc99 November 30th, 2014 at 19:27
That is a good point. What if the President was crude and profane like Cheney, or me for that matter.
Right wingers hailed Cheney’s vulgarity as a “straight shooter” who was simply telling it like it is. Right wing entertainer Dennis MIller almost peed on himself with joy as he recalled the incident. Does anyone think the TeaBaggers would have the same reaction if the President told Sen. Ted Cruz to go f*ck himself, as Cheney did with Pat Leahy? Hypocrites every damn one of them.

Dennis Miller is a putz plus he’s not funny…

If Obama stooped to their level, they’d call him a thug and a poor example for the youth of America…
M D Reese December 1st, 2014 at 17:39
That’s what I think too. He’s amazingly easy-going, considering.

his daughters are beautiful.
Anomaly 100 November 30th, 2014 at 19:10
Aren’t they though? I was just talking about that with my BFF. They’ve really grown into such beautiful young ladies.
Suzanne McFly November 30th, 2014 at 19:13
I bet it hurts them to hear the way some of these people talk about their dad, you can tell how much they love him. If I had someone talk about my Dad that way, you could see some Irish white trash crap going down.

He looks so uncomfortable to me in these types of videos. It seems like he is nervous some nutjob will be there and will yell rwnj crap at him. I always wish I could see him out to shake his hand and tell him to keep his head up, he is respected and admired by millions and he is doing the best he can considering the simpletons he is working with, not to mention the morons he is trying to help out but due to their idiot tendencies they vote against their own best interests.
whatthe46 November 30th, 2014 at 19:08
my sentiments exactly. i would love to speak those words to him.
Spirit of America November 30th, 2014 at 19:22
Actually, you should. Handwrite & usps mail it to him. Staff vets all letters, but a thoughtful & encouraging letter may just get through to him personally… it would make his(anyone’s) day.
arc99 November 30th, 2014 at 19:20
agreed. I hope he never loses site of the fact that 60million+ Americans voted for him twice. despite what you hear from the foaming at the mouth unhinged lunacy of many of his critics (yeah Wayout, people like you), I think he has done a remarkable job reducing the deficit, cutting unemployment in half, saving General Motors, getting our economy, getting bin Laden, and of course making health insurance available to millions of people for the first time..
Of course the critics will explain why all of the above are either not important at all, harmful to the country, or happened in spite of the President. The lesson is that those critics would not spend so much time and energy trying to denigrate the accomplishments of the President, if they were not a true assessment of his record.
We will never know what great things might have been achieved if the GOP had in fact been a loyal opposition. They were a bunch of lying, hysterical ideologues who demonstrated no governing objective other than finding opportunities to express their irrational hatred of everything the President touched.
Ultimately, my own system of evaluating the President’s performance is quite simple. The louder the squeals from the birthers, the more certain I am the President is doing the right thing.
If you don’t like the President issuing a LAWFUL executive order on immigration, then write to your new GOP Congressional leadership and demand they pass a bill the President can sign.
Suzanne McFly November 30th, 2014 at 19:37
You explained that very well and it would be hard for any rwnj to refute any of your facts.
jasperjava November 30th, 2014 at 22:36
It’s subjective, but I don’t think he looks uncomfortable at all. He has a free and easy charm. If some right-wing nitwit started shouting abuse, I have no doubt that this President could defend himself in the time it takes to say “FAST-AND-FURIOUS-I.R.S.-BENGHAZI”.

Somebody should tell the guy in the background who shouted out ‘when are you going to close Guantanamo!’ that it’s the Republicans who are making that promise not happen. The Republicans refuse to relocate the prisoners. And the Republicans continue to push the lie (which is all they do anymore – push lies) that Obama has broken a promise. Nonsense. He cannot act on his own on this one. He followed through on his promise to work to close it and was, for the millionth time, thwarted by unAmerican Republican obstructionism.
