I remember a push to get white boys to work the fields–they didn’t last but a few hours and couldn’t keep up. They would starve to death at a job where you get paid only for your production.

I actually did that for two summers when I was in high school. Melon fields in Arizona. Had to be out there by 5:00 AM in order to get in a few hours work before it got just too damn hot. As soon as the sun comes up, the temp starts rising, by 10:00 it’s 100, and doesn’t hit the high till 4:00. By noon, everyone is done. I can’t imagine doing that for a career.

At what point did it become acceptable to send these types of communications. Whether it’s a letter, email, tweet, FB posting, disqus comment, phone call, voice mail – all should have a line that you don’t cross. And a direct communication intended to be read by the recipient (as opposed to a public comment) should meet certain decorum standards.
I can’t disagree, that these are funny but when I realize these are actual true communications sent by adults – I am dismayed about the direction of public discourse.
