There Are Fewer Undocumented Immigrants In U.S. Than Before
From Republican rhetoric, you would think the U.S. was experiencing a tidal wave of illegal crossings of the border. Well those darned facts tell the opposite story:
Click here for reuse options!Pew estimates there were 11.3 million unauthorized immigrants in the United States in 2013. That figure has been pretty much flat for the past five years, and is down from a peak of 12.2 million in 2007. In other words, more unauthorized immigrants have left the country in the past six years — voluntarily or through deportation — than have arrived.
The slowdown in illegal immigration is partly the result of the weak U.S. economy, and especially the weak home construction industry, which was a major source of jobs for many migrants. But the flow across the Mexican border, in particular, began to slow before the recession, the result of tighter border security and a falling birthrate in Mexico, which meant there were fewer young Mexicans seeking jobs in the United States.

The Pew study also mentioned that Asians are the dominant immigrant group. Mexican immigrants have been here over 5 years and are something just over 50% of the incoming mix. Facts are pesky things!

Also Alan in response to your argument with Sheriff Joe: here are the exact words from Obama’s Immigration debacle.
“The guidelines say Priority One aliens “must be prioritized” for deportation unless they qualify for asylum or unless there are “compelling and exceptional” factors that indicate the alien is not a threat.
Priority Two offenders, whose cases are less urgent than criminals in Priority One, include the following:
aliens convicted of a “significant misdemeanor,” which for these purposes is an offense of domestic violence; sexual abuse or exploitation; burglary; unlawful possession or use of a firearm; drug distribution or trafficking; or driving under the influence; or if not an offense listed above, one for which the individual was sentenced to time in custody of 90 days or more (the sentence must involve time to be served in custody, and does not include a suspended sentence)” Hmm, you can get stoned and drunk, beat your wife, shoot the TV, sell your drugs to a Cop and rape the next door neighbor and not get deported. Crazy!
