Nursing Home Employee Allegedly Tells Resident: ‘I’ll Slap The Black Off You’
A Virginia family claims their loved one was called racial slurs and even physically abused at the Waverly Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Police say that they and the Sussex County Social Services department are involved and call this an active investigation, according to NBC 12.
Walker claims in the last year they have found unexplained bruises on her sister.
She further claims her sister has seemed overly medicated and now she says that abuse has become verbal.
“She was like shut up before I slap the black off you,” Randle’s daughter Starr Pierre claims.
Randle suffers from a muscular degeneration disease that has claimed the life of her mother, brother, and sibling. Walker simply wants a place for Randle to feel safe, NBC 12 reports.
“That’s all I want,” Walker said. “I just want my sister to be taken care of. That’s why I put her there.”
“We take all these allegations very seriously,” said nursing home administrator Audrey Seeley. “We cannot substantiate this.”
She claims they’ve conducted an internal investigation.
NBC 12 asked if she’s saying that allegations are not true.
“I’m saying that we can’t substantiate this,” said Seeley. “Yes.”
However, a nurse claims she witnessed the alleged abuse and asked to remain anonymous.
“I’m not hallucinating. I know what I heard,” the nurse said. “Someone is lying. It’s not me. I have no reason to lie. I’m not gaining anything. She has been told that she was going to get the black slapped off her. She has been called n*****.”
“I thank God for the whistleblower. She is brave and courageous,” Walker said. “This is not only about my sister. This is about the other residents in there. What about the ones that don’t have families to check on them?”
Social services will turn over any information from their investigation over to the police department.

I’ve seen numerous stories like this and it’s partially what keeps me going to the gym 3 days a week. I hope they get relief for their sister along with everyone who discovers this happening to a loved one.

What really hurts is that these places cost so damned much, and then the residents get abused like this.

When any nursing home, medical rehab. or hospital administrator says that an allegation “cannot be substantiated” THAT IS A LIE in and of it’s self!! I know because I’ve worked in all 3 settings and 1 way of tracking down an allegation is asking about the time of day or asking if patient’s/resident’s television was on and if so what program had they been watching….easy to do because all 3 settings do shifts and each shift has assigned nurses and certified nursing assistants (they have room assignments/hall assignments listed) and every shift worked has an assignment schedule that’s posted and there is also a printed copy.
