Lawsuit: Bad Meatloaf Killed Former West Virginia Lawmaker, Husband

According to family members of a former state lawmaker from West Virginia, she and her husband died after eating tainted meatloaf from the Ripley Bob Evans restaurant.

This is really bad press for a restaurant, don’t you think?

Mark and Ann Starcher claim in a lawsuit that the tainted food caused lasting health problems that ultimately led to the deaths of Harold “Punk” and Virginia “Ginny” Starcher, The Charleston Daily Mail reports.

The couple who were married for 60 years, shared a takeout meal from the restaurant in October 2012, which ended up being the last meal they shared together.

82-year-old Virginia Starcher was a former Jackson County commissioner. She was also the first woman elected to the state House of Delegates from Jackson County and served from 1987 to 1991.

Her husband Harold, 84, was a civil engineer who owned the Chartwell Corp. of Ripley.

Mrs. Starcher, who also had pre-existing health problems, died in December 2012 from a stroke, according to the Associated Press.

Her husband died in May 2013 after a December open heart surgery.

The restaurant’s Spokeswoman Hinda Mitchell, said on Friday that the lawsuit is without merit.

I do like that Mr. Starcher’s nickname was “Punk” though. That’s sort of cool for a man in his 80s.

Remember during the 2012 campaign when Mitt Romney wore a “It’s Real Beef!” T-shirt at a Barbecue promoting beef connective tissue as a viable ingredient in ground meat?
