Man Attacked Three Women While Yelling Anti-Gay Slurs
A man who uttered anti-gay slurs, attacked three women in Brooklyn last week and police are looking for the suspect.
NBC New York reports, “The women, ages 29, 34, and 36, had just a left a nightclub on Franklin Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant at about 2:15 a.m. Oct. 26 when the suspect approached and made the statements, police say.”
All three of the female victims were transported to a local hospital after suffering facial cuts.
One of the victims says she fears for her safety so she declined to give her name.
She said she was “truly saddened” by the attack.
“The tragic fact is that people still feel it’s their right to hate others for something that really isn’t any of their business,” she said in a statement. “My sexuality is my business and I shouldn’t have to be afraid to walk the streets of the city I love in fear of the ignorance and malevolent nature of strangers.”
Activists from the New York City Anti-Violence Project held a rally in Bedford-Stuyvesant to raise awareness.
“No one should be experiencing violence at the hands of anyone,” said activist, Shelby Chestnut. “We need to talk about this and we need to say this isn’t going to happen in our communities.”
According to NBC, the man was caught on surveillance video with three other people around the time of the attack.

Although I’m a liberal, I disagree with Alan Colmes’ disbelief in hate crimes.
Hate crimes are a form of terrorism.

Does Alan actually posit those beliefs? I am not getting it from this article, unless you are alluding to Alan making such claims from a prior time.

I’m not sure I agree here. If I had a wife beaten up for her purse, then next week had a lesbian daughter beaten up for being gay, I’d go after both perps w/the same intent & vigor.
I don’t care the reason for hurting people(and the punches hurt the same regardless of the reason), it is wrong and any one who gets punched should get the same justice. Not to mention how many times will people hurt some one for a bigot reason, but not utter the hate phrase, and get a lighter sentence?

Hate crimes are a form of terrorism which deserve a higher penalty.
