Those ‘Rock The Vote’ Celebrities Who Didn’t Vote In 2010 Are Not Hypocrites

A few weeks ago, the 24 year-old Rock The Vote campaign put out a celebrity-filled viral video parody of Li’l Jon’s “Turn Down For What” aimed at getting young people to vote in this year’s midterms. Entitled “#TurnOutForWhat,” the clip featured Li’l Jon himself, along with such of-the-moment stars as Lena Dunham, Darren Criss, E.J. Johnson, and Whoopi Goldberg(?) telling young voters why they’re turning out to vote this year. It was a pretty big success, although not as big as First Lady Michelle Obama’s Li’l Jon parody.

As it turns out, though, some of the stars of that rockin’ civics lesson didn’t vote in the last midterm election(!):

At least five who appeared in the PSA — “Girls” actress Lena Dunham, comedian Whoopi Goldberg, “Orange is the New Black” actress Natasha Lyonne, “Rich Kids of Beverly Hills” star E.J. Johnson, and actor Darren Criss — did not vote in the last midterm, records from Los Angeles County and New York City show.

The Washington Post was unable to locate voting records for six others who appeared in the PSA, including Lil Jon.

Well, duh, Li’l Jon isn’t his real name, it’s Li’l Jonathan.

Slamming liberal celebrities (a redundant phrase to conservatives) is a euphoric exercise on a par with auto-erotically asphyxiating at the Reagan Library for right-wingers, so when The Washington Post revealed its scoop, conservative sites everywhere immediately killed whoever got “hypocrite” in this week’s right wing nut job drinking game. Their favorite target of course, was punching-bag du jour Lena Dunham, as best exemplified by this Young Conservatives headline: “Crazy feminist wingnut doesn’t practice what she preaches when it comes to voting.

I give them points for at least knowing what hypocrisy means, and putting it right there in the headline. I mean, if Dumham was going around saying “voting in midterms is important, and if you ever didn’t vote in a midterm, then you are an idiot poopyhead, unlike me,” then that would be hypocritical. Hell, even if she didn’t say that, this could still be read as hypocritical, as long as Dunham displayed no self-awareness whatsoever about her past failure to vote.

Here’s Dunham being a huge hypocrite about voting…READ MORE
