Ben Carson: Surgeon General Has No Power
COLMES: Dr. Ben Carson, prominent neurosurgeon, high visibility, were asked by the President of the United States to serve your country to help at a time of crisis, why wouldn’t you pitch in and do that and bring us together so there isn’t that left right thing going on?
DR. CARSON: Because I wouldn’t have the power to do that.
COLMES: You can help lead.
DR. CARSON: The Surgeon General is a very ceremonial position, it has no power to do anything. And it has to carry water for the Administration. So if I don’t agree with most of the policies of the Administration, what would be the point?

No power. And no paychecks equal to what the Right Wingers pay me to preach their mantra to the masses.

So telling: “So if I don’t agree with most of the policies of the Administration, what would be the point?”
It’s called service to your country Mr. Carson. But you gotta have the power, right?
What a self-serving ass.

what this idiot has to say is irrelevant. he is not an elected politician, so why does the media feel the need to give carson print space?

Well? The heroic efforts of the medical professionals who have gone abroad to fight this disease at it’s source is well documented. Yet, their political affiliations are not mentioned.
So I guess fighting the disease is the point huh?
See? It’s not brain surgery..um..er..I mean, see? it’s not rocket science.

This is bullsh*t. Carson is pretending that he wouldn’t want to be SG because he wouldn’t be able to “go rogue.” When he was employed at Johns Hopkins, he wasn’t able to “go rogue,” either. He had to operate within the standards of the hospital and his department, and all of his actions were subject to review by the hospital’s review, legal, and ethics boards/agencies. The truth is that Carson knows that Pres. Obama would never consider him for the position, so to cover for his knowing this, Carson chooses to trash the position of SG, and in the process, this particular president and administration.

One of the main reasons that the Surgeon General has no power is because the GOPTP in Congress won’t let the President appoint one. Same for just about ANY position the president appoints. And Ben, I don’t think that you are in any danger of being asked to serve.

This is a ridiculous question that people keep hounding Carson on. As noted, Obama would never ask Ben Carson to be Surgeon General, Ebola Czar or anything else. Why, because they disagree on most things philosophically. Obama has also demonstrated time and again that he will do what he wants to do, based purely on politics, rather than listen to the experts around him. He doesn’t listen to his generals or his foreign policy advisors and now the ISIL problem has exploded to an international crisis. Not many people are going to lend their name and credibility to someone with whom they disagree and who has demonstrated that they won’t give serious consideration to your advice anyway.

Thou dost project too much, methinks!
Neurotic projection is perceiving others as operating in ways one unconsciously finds objectionable in yourself.
Isn’t it EXACTLY the opposite???
It is Obama who listens to the EXPERTS and weighs all the facts, while his critics operate on fear and half truths only to make cheap political points.
Obama is with the AMA, the NEJM, the Doctors Without Borders (the ULTIMATE experts on ebola), while his critics are spewing lies just to instill hysteria in the public.
Obama warned his critics about what would happen if they went into Iraq, he knew they had no idea who ISIS was and who was the FSA, (while ISIS circulates their photo with John McCain on their facebook page, because he sure so sure and so wrong that he KNEW who were the good guys).
Obama knew that nothing could be done until Maliki was gone..
Ben Carson, on the other hand has indicated that in spite of his knowledge of medicine, he is willing to become a complete political hack.
For me, the most telling is his rhetoric about Saul Alinsky, where even as he touts himself as someone who is a “well read” expert, he has either NEVER read Alinsky or he is lying, assuming that his audience has never read him and never will.
If anything, compared to Vivek Murthy, who was honest enough to have the audacity to state that “Guns are a health care issue.” (after all, gunshots DO put a strain on ERs), Carson has demonstrated that he would be a finger to the winder, and scoff knowledge in favor of red meat for the base. (like Bill Frist lying about Terri Schivo. Plus we can only imagine his opposition to the ACA if he was in the senate, but we know he favors it now that he can safely say it),
Why would you want an Attorney General who would ignore facts and just pander to a small base?

Cities in Iraq that US men and women died to free from the clutches of terrorists have fallen back into the hands of terrorists.

I feel the need to repeat this because, I have been a fan of Saul Alinsky’s since the 70’s, and while I realize that there is Fictional Saul Alinsky whom right invented in 2007, I have yet to meet a conservative who knows ANYTHING about Real Saul Alinsky.
Ben Carson exemplifies that.
I love Alan’s show, and am happy to pay for the podcast, but this will be another guest for me to fast forward.
Sometimes people give you a hint as to who they are, (as Maya Angelou said), and when this guy spouts off right wing rhetoric that can so easily be debunked, like;
“The Alinsky-ites say, One of his rules: Never have a conversation with your
adversary, because that humanizes them. And your job is to demonize them. They
don’t want you to talk.”????
(That is not one of his rules and he never said any such thing.)
Carson said. “In order to solve that problem, we must not allow ourselves to be
manipulated. We must go out. We must talk, even to people with whom we
disagree, and we must ask them, ‘What kind of America do you want to have? What
do you want to pass on to your children?’”
Carson said many aren’t familiar with the principles laid out in “Rules for Radicals,”
and certainly have no idea the book is dedicated to Lucifer. Yet, because they
have not yet educated themselves, they “blindly follow, like the pied piper
over the cliff.” (No he didn’t. He dedicated his book to Irene. He has a snippet where he says;
“Where there are no men, be thou a man”
–Rabbi Hillel
“Let them call me rebel and welcome, I feel no concern from it; but I should suffer the misery of devils, were I to make a whore of my soul…”
–Thomas Paine
Lest we forget at least an over-the-shoulder acknowledgment to the very first radical: from all our legends, mythology, and history (and who is to know where mythology leaves off and history begins- or which is which),… the first radical known to man who
rebelled against the establishment and did it so effectively that he at least
won his own kingdom
–Lucifer.
And
Carson: “Will you listen? You have to take a long-term look at the ascent of
something that fundamentally changes the power structure of America. You have
to be someone who reads. Who is well-read. I want you to go back tonight. I
want you to pull out what Saul Alinsky says about health care under the control of the
government.”
Interview with Evan Gahr
Saul Alinsky NEVER said anything of the kind.
The book is only 199 pages, one would think before he spouts off such provable nonsense, he would read it.
Claiming to
be “well read” “educated” on the topic, while demonstrating that he either has NEVER read, and is totally uneducated on the topic, or is blatantly lying.
I put Dr Carson in the ‘I don’t have to drink the chunky, curdled, sour milk to know it
is bad and will make me sick’ category.
