S.C. House Speaker To Resign, Plead Guilty To Ethics, Misconduct Charges

South Carolina House Speaker Bobby Harrell (R) plans to resign from the Legislature on Thursday and plead guilty to charges related to ethics and misconduct allegations, according to The Post and Courier.

The Charleston Republican is facing nine charges including two counts of misconduct in office, six counts of using campaign funds for personal use, and one count of false reporting candidate campaign disclosures.

Harrell was released on bond in late September after facing allegations that he doctored flight records, reimbursed himself for flights that he didn’t take and unlawfully paid himself tens of thousands of dollars from his campaign account. The speaker is a licensed pilot and often flew between Charleston and Columbia, according to the Courier.

Harrell previously claimed innocence while being scrutinized for 18 months. Election Day is just 12 days away and this move could damage Republicans. State and federal authorities are investigating other Legislature members for allegations of similar misdeeds.

Except when you’re trying to keep government small. Fewer bank accounts means smaller government.

You’d think that all these republican misdeeds that keep occurring, people would wake up and see they’re being played by a bunch of crooks. But no. They keep electing these cretins into office every election cycle. I have no sympathy for SC.

I imagine those who voted him into office and have been defending him on blogs need several rolls of toilet tissue now to clean up the sh*t they’ve been spreading everywhere (and all over themselves) while they have been typing “He’s a good Christian man, these charges are bogus” over and over again. If they’re embarrassed, they should be for allowing self-serving, greedy, thieving, lying tools like Harrell and his buddies in SC’s legislature to take advantage of them and use their political offices for personal gain.
