Police Say Pa. Woman Saw Man Open Carrying Long Gun, Might Be Accused Killer Eric Frein

Investigators believe a woman saw Eric Frein, the suspected anti-government sniper, sought by authorities on suspicion of killing a Pennsylvania state trooper and wounding another in a September ambush.

The woman said she spotted a man openly carrying a long rifle with a scope, dressed in black on Friday night near some woods not far from Pocono Mountain East High School in eastern Pennsylvania on Friday night, State Police Lt. Col. George Bivens told reporters on Saturday.

Frein used to attend the high school and also used to work at a camp just west of the area, Bivens said.

Before the news conference, an official, speaking to CNN on the condition of anonymity, said the woman told police she saw a man dressed in all black on Friday night, with his face covered in mud, armed with a long rifle with a scope.

Frein, 31, is suspected in the September 12 ambush shooting that left Cpl. Bryon Dickson dead and Trooper Alex T. Douglass wounded outside the Pennsylvania State Police barracks in Blooming Grove.

A massive search for Frein has been carried out since, at times involving as many as 1,000 officers. Despite recent sightings and other leads, he has eluded authorities. The manhunt has cost several million dollars, State Police Lt. Col. George Bivens said earlier this month.

Frein has been described as a survivalist and military re-enactment enthusiast with a hatred for law enforcement, authorities say.

Authorities say Frein is to be “considered armed and extremely dangerous.”

It’s “not the Open Carry citizen that shoots up a public place” said an Open Carry activist recently.

 

Maybe Frien is in a nearby Kroger store trying to blend in with their new clientele.
