Mr. Lear is quite correct and it just proves how much we’ve regressed as a society.

It’s the result of whiny conservatives objecting to being portrayed like the bigots that they are.

However, society continues to progress apace. Gays and lesbians are enjoying acceptance and rights that would have been undreamed of in the 1970s. Conservatives are left behind, impotently gnashing their teeth.

What we need is more vocal, radical liberals like Norman Lear to kick the ball forward.

        Baaa-hahahaha!

Oh, wait, you were serious? You think it’s because television can’t portray conservatives as bigots? Or is it because television can’t touch the sensitive subjects any longer without offending 125% of the viewing audience?

Riiiiight. That’s why the biggest and most successful shows in recent history have steered clear of sensitive subjects.

Like how Breaking Bad played with safe subjects like healthcare and the war on drugs. Or how Orange is the New Black is being so cautious with non-controversial topics like race, the dehumanization of prisoners, or gender and sexuality.

Now do it in prime time, non-cable.

            • Rusty Shackleford October 18th, 2014 at 13:04

Why? Who needs those channels, when cable and internet are beating the everloving crap out of them?

I agree with Mr. Lear. ALL IN THE FAMILY is still blisteringly funny and provocative after all these years, but it could not be done today, that’s for sure.

If you hear voices its playing!

If I hear voices when people are speaking or in my head? Just to save time, it’s the former not the latter. XD

Who needs Archie Bunker when we have racists like Hannitty, O’Reilly, Palin, Beck and Limbaugh?

  8. mmaynard119 October 19th, 2014 at 11:27

I don’t know about that. In it’s own way, Modern Family is subversive, just not as in your face subversive as All in the Family was. It has two gay men raising a family, a mixed race family, and other things you wouldn’t see on TV at the time of All of the Family, and those things are treated as part of everyday life, as they should be.
