Texas Healthcare Worker Tests Positive For Ebola
A second case of Ebola has been confirmed in the United States. The worker helped care of Thomas Duncan, the first diagnosed case in the U.S, who recently died from the disease.
A healthcare worker at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital has tested positive for Ebola after a preliminary test, the state’s health agency said.
Confirmatory testing will be conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.
The employee helped care for Thomas Eric Duncan, the first person ever diagnosed with Ebola in the United States. Duncan died on Wednesday.

“We knew a second case could be a reality, and we’ve been preparing for this possibility,” Dr. David Lakey, commissioner of the Texas Department of State Health Services, said in a statement Sunday morning.
“We are broadening our team in Dallas and working with extreme diligence to prevent further spread.”

U.S. airports start Ebola screenings with no physical contact infrared temperature sensors. The HC worker infection begins another 21 day quarantine in Dallas. Deceased patient Duncan’s girlfriend and housemates will be all clear from Ebola infection on 10/19/14. They remain under observation for an extra ten days until 10/29/14.

Odd, that a medical person would get the disease while the family seems to have been cleared. I’m guessing that that medical person was NOT properly dressed for Ebola patients.

Just read this news on MSN. Reading the comments, the predictable bigots are not concerned with the virus, rather claiming it’s the gov’s and Obama’s fault. A (so called) nurse compared this to the AIDS epidemic and she predicted this would happen. I wouldn’t want her nursing me if i were hospitalized. Still though, I think the hospital is mostly at fault for allowing Duncan (the man who came back from Liberia) to leave the hospital after he was diagnosed with a fever. It is a hard virus to spread, so the action they need to take is obvious.

We need a national push to expand medicaid in Texas so that everyone can get into see doctors when they get sick. If Ebola gets out in Texas and spreads because people can’t see a doctor, this will be the republicans fault. This can be circumvented by a strong push nationally to get Davis elected and immediately expanding medicaid. Republican mismanagement in Texas needs to be replaced for the security of the nation. Everyone needs to be able to see a doctor so infectious diseases don’t spread in a modern day world with so many people. The republicans are fighting this and they are wrong, dead wrong.

Republican leadership is a disaster in Texas. We need leadership that cares about the health of it’s citizens, not leadership that wants to deny people healthcare and over regulate who can get it and why.

There are conflicting reports on whether or not this new case was wearing protective equipment or not when they came into contact w/Duncan.

EDIT…subsequent reports are saying the subject was dressed in CDC recommended dress.

25 years ago when I was involved w/asbestos removal we were video’d for a permanent record of how we proceeded. It may be a good idea to do the same thing from here on out so if anyone is infected in the future a error in protocol maybe identified.
