Former Agent Touts Allen West As Person Who Should Head The Secret Service

A former agent for the Secret Service penned an op-ed for The Washington Post in which he touts Allen West as one who “possesses the leadership skills” to head the Secret Service. Yes, the very same Allen West who previously called President Obama an “Islamist” with unclear “loyalties,” and recently called on the military to ignore orders from its commander-in-chief. That one.

After security breaches, the Secret Service is now under the microscope so Dan Emmett weighed in saying that the agency’s failure to keep a man from jumping over the White House fence and entering the building was particularly concerning “because the United States is at war.”

Talking Points Memo reports:

“This message undoubtedly will embolden our enemies, and that’s a serious problem at a time when terrorist groups are planning major attacks on Western soil and coming alarmingly close to carrying them out,” Emmett wrote.

He argued that the U.S. has brought in the military to protect the White House before — during World War II.

“While Congress has not declared war on ISIS and al-Qaeda, U.S. airstrikes in Syria and Iraq – as well as the threats of radical Islamist groups against Americans and our country – make it clear we are indeed at war,” he wrote. “Had combat troops been in place during last week’s White House breach, the threat would have been easily countered by fixed posts and roving patrols of soldiers or Marines, who are trained to respond immediately to such intrusions with whatever force is deemed necessary.”

Then, he suggested that Allen West replace Julia Pierson as the director of the Secret Service.

“In this role, a true leader, not a bureaucrat, is needed,” Emmett wrote. “West has successfully demonstrated that he possesses the leadership skills of a combat officer as well as managerial and diplomatic skills of a congressman, exactly the traits needed in the next director.”

Emmett is writing about very same Allen West whose commanding general ordered administrative action against Lt. Col. Allen West, who was accused of using improper methods to force information out of an Iraqi detainee.

West was fined $5,000 over two months following the hearing. West could have faced 11 years in prison. In testimony, West said the suspect was not cooperating with interrogators, so he watched four of his soldiers beat the detainee on the head and body.

According to West, he took the suspect outside, put him on the ground near a weapons clearing barrel and fired his 9 mm pistol into the barrel. And Emmett wants that guy in charge of protecting the President of the United States.
