13-Year-Old Texas Girl Shoots, Kills Older Brother While Playing With A Gun
A 13-year-old Texas girl shot and killed her 22-year-old brother in what police describe as an accident.
The victim invited a friend into the home and the two began playing with a gun, according to reports. The two were allegedly drinking at the time.
It hasn’t been revealed as to how the girl came into possession of the gun, but it fired and struck the victim.
The victim was identified as Gregory Higdon. His mother says he was her only son, according to ABC 13.
He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The romanticization of gun ownership, as well as lax laws with an emphasis on ‘guns everywhere’ is certainly complicit in this tragedy. Alcohol and guns do not mix. Neither do children and guns. Gun safes and trigger locks are a thing. If only the brother had a gun, too. Oh that’s right, he did.
