Sanders: ‘The Only Way Somebody Like Me Can Win Is To Put Together A Political Revolution’
COLMES: What has to happen between now and whenever that moment comes for you to pull that trigger?
SEN. SANDERS: Well, I have to see what kind of support there is there, and for me, when you take on the Koch Brothers and the billionaire class, these guys will spend all kinds of money against you. And the only way that somebody like me can win is to put together a political revolution. Strong grassroots support all over the country for people who are saying enough is enough. The greed of the top 1% is now destroying this America, this country…
COLMES: Where do you stand on what we should be doing about these foreign threats and how much of a threat are they?
SEN. SANDERS: Look, ISIS is a threat. This a cruel and brutal and dangerous organization. Do I think that they may well be plotting against the United States and Europe, yeah I do. The question is, how do you effectively address them? I voted no on the issue of supporting the Syrian so-called moderates. Because I think at the end of the day, what I worry about is the United States getting dragged into another quagmire, another never ending war.

The American people will not elect a self-described socialist.
dave-dr-gonzo September 26th, 2014 at 09:01
And that’s a pity. I’d back a Sanders-Warren fusion ticket. Better yet, Sanders-Chomsky.
Skydog2 September 26th, 2014 at 09:05
To get elected, all skeltons in your closet get exposed. All of Hillary’s have been exposed / discussed / debated.
NW10 September 26th, 2014 at 09:36
Yet she is leagues better than any Republican shoring up to run in 2016.
NW10 September 26th, 2014 at 09:36
And either Sanders/Warren or Sanders/Chomsky would be doing the exact same things President Obama is doing now, because they’d be representing the entire country, as opposed to left wingers on professional left/left wing blogs.
mea_mark September 26th, 2014 at 10:15
That is one of the reasons I don’t want them to run. They are doing more where they are at now. If they got elected to the presidency they wouldn’t be able to champion the causes they are now the same way.

You leave me at Chomsky! But, Sanders/Warren, Warren/Sanders is a ticket I could actively campaign for and support.

We need to get the CONGRESS back from the hands of the Economic Royalists that control it. That branch of government is critical. If these Big Shot Corporations get hold of the Senate majority in November, it’s over. I’d vote the Democratic ticket for that reason alone.

The American people will not elect a self-described socialist.
_______
And yet in every poll, “socialist” is EXACTLY where the American fall on every issue.
I think, after phony semantics, the biggest problem is that The American people will not elect a disheveled, (not well quaffed) person.
tiredoftea September 26th, 2014 at 12:05
Likely, true, but not for certain.
Connie Snyder September 26th, 2014 at 18:19
Why not? The self-described capitalists have certainly stunk up the place. People are sick of them. Nothing wrong with socialism, in fact, much preferable to the lop-sided greed-fest that is the capitalism of today.
Skydog2 September 26th, 2014 at 23:24
Capitalist built this great country. What have socialists accomplished?
Connie Snyder September 27th, 2014 at 12:19
Capitalism failed this country. It threw us into the greatest depression we’ve ever known, into an illegal oil war that has raged for nearly twenty years costing taxpayers trillions, was at the root of the economic meltdown of 2008 from which we have yet to recover, and robbed the American people of their voice in the government by buying the majority of politicians. No. All I’ll provide you with is the list of what misery this mutated, sick form of capitalism has caused. It’s an unsustainable and ruinous policy that will, in the end, destroy us. I no longer want it for my country.

I’d vote for Bernie in a heartbeat however it takes a massive amount of money to even enter an election campaign much less win it. The elections are totally rigged anyway as the Electoral College makes the final decision…
NW10 September 26th, 2014 at 09:32
Money doesn’t win elections, votes do. If money determined elections, then Eric Cantor would’ve won his primary and Mitt Romney would’ve won the Presidency in 2012.
crc3 September 26th, 2014 at 22:27
My point is it takes a lot of money to run in a campaign whether you win or lose. Bernie will never get the kind of money it takes to enter the race because he’s an Independent socialist. I would vote for him if I knew he could win and definitely not wasting my vote on some Bagger either…
tiredoftea September 26th, 2014 at 12:02
No, the Electoral College is simply the relic that votes the number of apportioned Congressional representatives in Presidential elections. It reflects the popular vote and does not cast votes independently.
crc3 September 26th, 2014 at 22:22
I never said that the EC casts votes. I will say that the EC needs to go away and let the popular vote decide elections…

I respect Bernie Sanders, but what he is talking about is just stupid. A revolution against what?
Last time I checked, we have a democracy where everyone, save for convicted felons and undocumented workers, can vote. What is there to revolt against? People revolt against oppression, and there is no oppression here in the United States. Even the voter ID laws pushed by Republicans can be overcome by getting rid of them.
mea_mark September 26th, 2014 at 10:18
Sanders did say “political revolution” in all fairness. I think he was referring to a very strong GOTV movement more than anything else.

Go and read “The Divide” by Matt Taibbi. That should give you some idea.
