New Jobs Data Proves Mitt Romney’s Predictions Wrong
The United States job market increased by 162,000 in August, less than expected, and the unemployment rate is down to 6.1%, but that indicates fewer people looking for work. Still it is a far cry from what Mitt Romney predicted when he ran against President Obama.
“I can’t possibly predict precisely what the unemployment rate would be after one year. I can tell you, after a period of four years, by virtue of the policies we’d put in place, we’d get the unemployment rate down to 6 percent — perhaps a little lower, depends in part upon the rate of growth [around] the globe, as well as what we’re seeing here in the United States,” Romney told TIME magazine’s Mark Halperin.
Romney predicted “chronic high unemployment” if President Obama were reelected.
Mitt Romney predicted that “chronic, high unemployment” would persist for the next four years if President Obama is re-elected in an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”
If this president’s re-elected you’re going to see chronic high unemployment continue for another four years or longer. You’re going to see low wage growth, if any growth at all. And of course there’ll always be this fiscal calamity at our doorstep.
Wrong.

162,000 jobs added last month, and that’s treated as good news.

After the last eight years, yup.

No it’s not great news, however, we are on pace for a sound recovery. Unless we go to war again.

Or elect too many republicans in the coming elections.
Anomaly 100 September 5th, 2014 at 12:33
Same diff. We will end up in a war soon and there are even signs from some Democrats indicating that they’re onboard. Or at least one springs to mind anyway.

After watching the POTUS this morning I think it is more an alliance of nations that are going to be doing things and are involvement will be less than it was in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I sure hope you’re right. I’m not into the war thing at all.

Well, it would of been a lot better if the republicans would quit trying to hurt the economy to make Obama look bad. Don’t you think it is about time the republicans started caring about the American people and worked on a jobs bill that helps rebuild Americas crumbling infrastructure and outdated transmission lines. Government can create jobs that helps Americans and the economy at the same time. Republicans just refuse to because Obama is in office and they don’t want him to get credit for it. The republicans are acting like petulant children. They want the credit for it, but can’t get themselves elected and into power to do anything because they are stuck on stupid hateful selfish policies that are hurting America.

One of the bigger drags on the employment rate is the number of government workers being pink slipped. And not just federal government either. Many states, county, local, and school districts have cut jobs to the point of hurting themselves trying to do the work government is charged with doing.

It is jobs on a federal level that we need to stimulate the economy some more. Once the economy gets going a little faster the local government and schools can start to bring back the workers they need to do their jobs. The tax base the local governments rely on needs to be increased first. Federal jobs rebuilding and upgrading infrastructure are the kinda of jobs that help increase the tax base.

That’s way better than the ‘news’ about Bush’s last year or two.

Romney was/is tone deaf and a mediocre governor, but this seems a little like kicking a dog. He’s not going to run for Prez again and has no party influence.

according to the BLS 92,269,000 people ages 16 and older did not participate in the labor force in August.the lowest rate since 1978. In august the Labor participation rate was 62.8% down from 62.9% in july. By contrast the labor participation rate in august of 2011 was 64.1%. or roughly 2 million fewer people working today than in august of 2011
Dwendt44 September 5th, 2014 at 16:52
Since the ‘baby boomers’ are now starting to retiring, one would expect a drop in the rate of participation in the work force.
How many of those 92 million are disabled, criminal, or other wise doing something else-like SCHOOL?
Cherry picking numbers in order to smear Obama gets you into trouble every time, since facts don’t matter to the ‘Obama Haters’.
mea_mark September 5th, 2014 at 18:17
The best way to get people back into the labor force is to have jobs. Tell the republicans to get off their lazy rear ends and put together a jobs bill.

The senate has over 300+ bills that won’t even come up for a vote either… both sides are playing games, not governing.

We’re already seeing low wage growth, and have seen it for 30 years thanks to the policies of Reagan. Bush 1 and Bush 2. The “fiscal calamity” occurred began when Bush was first eehh, ummm, cheated to become POTUS in 2000. The “calamity” continued until 2008.
