Aide to ISIS Leader Al-Baghdadi Among 3 Killed In U.S. Airstrike

Here’s another example, of President Obama “doing nothing.”

Three senior members of the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) – including an aide to its leader – were killed in a U.S. airstrike in Iraq, a senior Iraqi security official told NBC News Thursday. The strike on the ISIS stronghold of Mosul killed Abu Hajar Al-Sufi, an aide to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, as well as an explosives operative and the military leader of the nearby town of Tel Afar, the source said on condition of anonymity. Al Arabiya cited the Iraqi Defense Ministry saying Baghdadi’s aide had been killed in the strike.

The U.S. has been carrying out airstrikes across the country’s north after the brutal terror group gained ground in a murderous sweep in June. The U.S. and the West have stepped up their rhetoric against the group after what Obama’s opponents said was a slow start in articulating a solution to the crisis.

How many of these guys are we going to kill before we learn that we need to change our foreign policy?

    • edmeyer_able September 4th, 2014 at 13:31

      This is our foreign policy.

      • tiredoftea September 4th, 2014 at 13:49

Yes, very progressive! It’s time for something more in keeping with respect and understanding. The nineteenth century version of imperial states has run its course.

        • edmeyer_able September 4th, 2014 at 13:52

Do you believe al bahgdadi and the leaders of boko haram can be reasoned with?

          • tiredoftea September 4th, 2014 at 15:00

That misses the point. We, our government, created this world with our backwards and short term policies of rewarding those who would serve our economic purposes. It worked for older imperial powers. And, our foreign policy is modeled on them.

In the Middle East, we used dictators and illegitimate governments to do that. Our government and western governments, created the problems and we refuse to recognize that is the case.

Today’s problems are symptoms of that history. The violence is a short term solution. Killing OBL hasn’t solved anything. Killing the next bunch won’t either. What’s that saying about dong the same thing?

            • edmeyer_able September 4th, 2014 at 15:08

I agree with you completely but don’t you think that we are defending a legit government in Iraq at the moment?
I believe we made the right move in Libya and what ever happens there we’ll have to live with, but as far as isis is concerned I equate with the likes of the nazis.

              • tiredoftea September 4th, 2014 at 17:00

We have responsibilities there, at the moment. But, how many times do we pay for something we broke? If the current version of Iraq’s national government is legitimate, then they have to bring a military force to defend their country with our assistance, not the other way around. Their whole country, Kurd’s included, and all the population’s religious sects. If its legitimate, then the world’s governments should also step up to help it, especially its Middle East neighbors.

Iraq is a recent western fabrication that is failing on our watch. ISIS is an organization we gave impetus to with the reckless intrusion of W and his war criminal administration. How long do we prop up a grand failure?

                • edmeyer_able September 4th, 2014 at 17:20

I don’t know but I feel if republicans have their way we’ll have another force of 100K or more on the ground, and that is unacceptable.

A thought that just came to mind….if the Kurds go into Syria and are met bySYRIAN forces what action does the US take? fmw.

The ME needs to change their ways. We can’t solve their conflicts for them.

Al-Baghdadi got the message loud and clear: we’re coming for you. You can run, but you can’t hide.

    • edmeyer_able September 4th, 2014 at 13:37

Whether we can reduce their leadership enough to make a significant change in their behavior remains to be seen. There was a beheading in Britain today but as yet nothing on MSM about it.

        That was just a woman.
Killing women isn’t terrorism, it’s normal.

In the 7th century the Sunnis made a martyr out of the Shiite leader, and for
going on 1400 years the Shiites have been killing them in revenge. Now the US wants to be the ones to make a martyr out of another of their religious leaders. Brilliant strategy, that.

The justification for going over there was to Rescue the Yazidis trapped on Mt. Sinjar. Then it was to Protect the Mosul Dam. Now, predictably, it’s to Destroy
ISIS, and we’re back to body counts again. Sure didn’t take long this time.

I’d like to see us mount an attack on their finances in the manner that hackers seem to be able to carry out on Home Depot, Target and what’s her names nude photos.

The ISIS leader, will just get another aide, and keep moving. They don’t seem to care about a lost/dead body.

I remember the accomplishments America bragged about when I was a kid– we created the Nat’l Parks, Interstate Highway System, put a man on the moon and a car in every garage, we cured Polio.
Now, all America brags about is who they’ve killed.
