Steve Sotloff ‘Put Himself In A War Zone To Try To Give A Voice To People’ Says Good Friend

Dan Isaacsohn knew Steven Sotloff since they were in Israel together, where they both became Israeli citizens. He recalled his pal on radio with me Wednesday night.

COLMES: Did he share with you what he was doing, what his goals were, why he chose that beat as a journalist?
ISSACSOHN: Not in particularity. I did see him actively make the switch to being a journalist, in terms of obviously he went to UCF down in Florida, and when he came to Israel, what we studied together was political science, and philosophy and terrorism, and all the things that went into it and he wanted to learn about these places to have a better understanding as he at school wound up and he really thought about what he wanted to do next, he went right back to journalism where he was. You know, the way he was, he wanted to go after the harder stories, because he honestly wanted to give a voice to the people who didn’t have a voice…

COLMES: What is it you would like people to know about your friend?
ISSACSOHN: First, thank you for asking that question, it’s a really important question, and what I want people to know is that he is one of the people who shouldn’t been taken from us. And what keeps coming to my mind since this happened is the Billy Joel song, “Only the Good Die Young.” And it couldn’t have been more true about Steve and it reflects in the fact that what we’ve been talking about here is he would put himself in harm’s way to give a voice to people who didn’t, that’s the type of guy he was and the friend I wanted to be with. Not only because of that but because of his realism about things. He was just a good guy. He was friendly, he was humorous, he was very intelligent. And so very easy to get along with and someone who would draw people to him. And he wasn’t someone out there with ulterior motives. He was just a good guy, and in the world today where there is more and more increasing who don’t seem to be that way, Steve was one of the people that would put himself in a war zone to try to give a voice to people.
