Russian Rebel Ghouls Hijack Bodies Of MH17 Victims

Posted by | July 20, 2014 10:07 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Top Stories War & Peace

You’d almost think that Russian rebels in the Ukraine are scrambling to cover up a massive war crime against civilians:

Armed rebels forced emergency workers to hand over all 196 bodies recovered from the Malaysia Airlines crash site and then had them loaded onto refrigerated train cars bound for a rebel-held city, Ukrainian officials and monitors said Sunday.

The surprising, rapid-fire developments Sunday morning came after a wave of international outrage over how the bodies of plane crash victims were being handled and amid fears that the armed rebels who control the territory where the plane came down were tampering with the evidence.

Ukraine and the separatists accuse each other of firing a surface-to-air missile Thursday at Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 as it flew from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur some 33,000 feet (10,000 meters) above the battlefields of eastern Ukraine. Both deny shooting down the plane. All those onboard the flight – 283 passengers and 15 crew – were killed.

Ukraine says Russia has been sending sophisticated arms to the rebels, a charge that Moscow denies.

The rebels have been strictly limiting the movements of international monitors and journalists at the crash site, which is near the Russian border, and Ukraine’s Emergency Ministry said its workers were laboring under duress, overseen by the armed rebels.

Associated Press journalists saw reeking bodies baking in the summer heat Saturday, piled into body bags by the side of the road or still sprawled where they landed in the verdant farmland in eastern Ukraine after their plane was shot out of the sky.

By Sunday morning, AP journalists saw no bodies and no armed rebels at the crash site. Emergency workers were searching the sprawling fields only for body parts.

Conservatives treated Putin like a hero, when it was convenient to justify their hate for Obama.
Conservatives now treat Putin like a villain, because it’s convenient to justify their hate for Obama.

Sanctions aren’t going to do diddly. What will do something is giving the Ukrainians assistance they need, in weapons and people.

        • arc99 July 20th, 2014 at 12:57

Why is it the responsibility of the United States? Most of the casualties were either Dutch or Australian. Why do those nations not have the primary responsibility of providing weapons and people instead of the American taxpayer?

It never ceases to amaze me that whenever anyone suggests programs to help people right here at home, the first question is always how much it will cost. But when it comes to guns, bombs and wars, money is no object and never even enters the discussion.

          • Bianca Bradley July 20th, 2014 at 13:14

Because our citizens dead bodies are being taken. Because 100 Aids researchers, some of which were American were on that plane.

Because its in our national interest to help the Ukraine and not Pro Russian thugs, who are likely being helped by KGB Putin.

            • Carla Akins July 20th, 2014 at 13:49

I do believe it’s our responsibility to offer assistance, but in this case I don’t think it would be correct to insist. There are no American’s on the manifest that was released this morning, but POTUS stated there was one confirmed American on the flight. There were 108 AIDS researchers. Most of the passengers were Dutch and they have been very vocal about getting in there to those bodies and demanding answers.

              • arc99 July 20th, 2014 at 14:08

We also need to consider very carefully what kind of assistance we would provide. What guarantees can we obtain that any arms we provide to the Ukrainian military will not end up in the hands of the very rebels they are supposed to be fighting?

Assuming that the Ukrainian military is being run by men who are opposed to the expansion of Russian influence, weapons are only as effective as the people who use them. If the Ukrainian military, even with weapons we supply, is not capable of withstanding an assault from Russia-aligned paramilitary forces, our weapons end up in the hands of the pro-Russians.

Certainly we can offer humanitarian assistance and technological expertise into investigating the apparent attack on the airline. Otherwise, I think we should heed the words of President 1.0.

While Washington’s farewell address is frequently misquoted, the point he was making remains the same when you look at what he actually did say.

I would like to think we could help but is that rational or just my emotional side wanting to cheer the underdog? I am tired of war, and all that it brings.

            • arc99 July 20th, 2014 at 13:56

Not to in any way denigrate the deaths of so many or the loss of the contributions any of them may have made, but the most current information indicates there was one American on the plane and he held dual American/Dutch citizenship. None of the AIDS researchers were American.

I think it is more in our national interest to make sure that people have access to health care and food than it is to expend our resources trying to retaliate for an act of war committed in a foreign country, against a foreign-owned asset. My question remains. Why is it that when it comes to guns, bombs and wars, we do not consider the cost just as we do with expenditures here at home.

My other question also remains. Since the overwhelming majority of casualties were Dutch and Australian, why is it the responsibility of the United States to any greater degree than the responsibility of those nations to invest their treasure and perhaps their blood in the Ukraine. Aren’t those countries the ones with the overriding national interest to identify and punish those who murdered their citizens?

            • Obewon July 20th, 2014 at 14:53

The MH17 manifest listed no Americans, but the State Department confirmed in a tweet that Quinn Lucas Schansman, listed as a Dutch citizen on the manifest, held dual-citizenship.

Initial (GOP TV?) reports stated that 23 Americans (teabonics for Australian) were on board. However, President Obama said Friday that at least 1 American was among the dead e.g. “Quinn Lucas Schansman, listed as a Dutch citizen on the manifest, held dual-citizenship.”-Via FNC. http://www.foxnews.com/world/2014/07/19/malaysia-airlines-releases-mh17-passenger-manifest/

Will YOU be enlisting and sending extra cash in to the govt to do what you say you want?

Because we have the ability to act in a decisive way. Because we are the preeminent superpower who believes in freedom. Who else can stop Russia? You’re so invested in Obama that you are completely blind.

Jeezus, what is it with conservatives’ inability to resist escalating every crisis they see (from a comfortable distance)?

Wait..giving weapons to rebels is how this happened…and I wondering if you remember how ell it worked out in the 80s when WE gave millions of weapons, cash etc to a rebel group in Afghanistan…Stinger missiles …yeah…that didn’t work out so well. What is it that conservatives seem to know No history, and con commitment lessons.

So far, the Ukraine Army is racking up too much ‘collateral’ damage in citizens being killed by random attacks in rebel held territory.

It’s been reported that some bodies were being sent to Ukraine held areas and some to rebel controlled areas. Most probably the locals figured it’s about time for the bodies to be removed? -what with it being summer there and some decomposition beginning.
Flight recorders should be turned over to an international committee for non biased examination though. I think maybe Ireland or Sweden, Tanzania, Ecuador or Japan should lead the investigation as their findings would be the least suspicious/corrupt.

Still not sure if the rebels are covering up a crime they committed or are covering up for their Kremlin masters. This is sick – Putin is an international gangster criminal shame on the Republican Party for worshipping him.

maybe they figure Snowden would be able to alter the flight recorders?

I can understand putting the bodies in a refrigerated place. But why do the refrigerated train cars have to travel to two different cities? Or even one city? Why not keep the disaster contained to one place?

    • ChrisVosburg July 20th, 2014 at 17:39

Space and Staff, I imagine. Few morgues can handle that big and sudden an influx, so they are spread out over available resources (much in the same way multi-vehicle or bus accident victims are sent to more than one hospital).
