Federal Judge Upholds Colorado Gun Laws

Colorado gun control laws introduced after mass shootings in Connecticut and in that state have been upheld by a federal judge. A lawsuit brought by gun advocates was dismissed.

The two laws, passed in 2013 by Colorado’s Democratic-controlled legislature with scant Republican support, banned ammunition magazines that hold more than 15 rounds and required background checks for all private gun sales and transfers.

Last year, voters recalled two key Democratic members of the legislature that approved the controversial measures.

After a two-week civil trial, U.S. District Chief Judge Marcia Krieger ruled the lawsuit lacked standing and said no evidence had been produced which showed limiting magazines to 15 rounds seriously diminished the ability to defend oneself.

Two democratic Colorado State Senators, one was the veteran Senate President, were recalled in September 2013 after these were passed. I’m sure they won’t get their seats back.

That’s the last thing Colorado needs — courts invalidating elections.

The courts didn’t recall them, the people did. That’s a deeeeeep red district.

Right. I meant if the courts were to reverse the recall decision. I should have been clearer.

I live here. It was a witch hunt recall funded by outside interests. As it turns out the laws they passed were upheld in court. Barely a valid political exercise. They were good people and duly elected.

If you need more than 15 rounds to defend yourself, you are either totally unqualified to own a gun of any kind or you’re in Afghanistan.

No doubt the judge is getting hate mail and threats now–that’s the way these gun fetishists roll when they don’t get their way.
