Primary Night: Cochran Ekes Out Win, More Races Decided
In New York’s 13th Congressional District, incumbent Democrat Charles Rangel looks poised to defeat a primary challenge from State Senator Adriano D. Espaillat for a second time. With 99% of the vote in, Rangel leads by nearly 1800 votes (an insurmountable 3.8% margin), though as of midnight none of the major news outlets has called the race.
CNN reports several other races have been decided:
- OK-Sen: “Rep. James Lankford won Oklahoma’s Republican primary, in the race to succeed retiring GOP Sen. Tom Coburn. With 95% of precincts reporting, Lankford, a minister and a member of the House GOP leadership, had 58% of the vote, while former state House Speaker T.W. Shannon, who was backed by a bunch of anti-establishment and tea party groups, had 34%, according to numbers compiled by The Associated Press. Five other candidates were on the ballot.”
- MD-Gov: “CNN projects that Maryland Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown will win the state’s Democratic gubernatorial primary. The two-term lieutenant governor faced off in an ugly primary battle against state Attorney General Doug Gansler and state lawmaker Heather Mizeur.”
