Bergdahl Transferred To Outpatient Care
Click here for reuse options!Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, the American prisoner of war freed in exchange for five Taliban detainees held at Guantánamo Bay, has been moved from a military medical center in Texas to begin outpatient treatment, the Pentagon said Sunday.
It is the latest step in what the military described as a healing and reintegration process for Sergeant Bergdahl, 28, who was held captive for nearly five years by militants before his release on May 31. Sergeant Bergdahl initially received medical treatment and counseling at an American military hospital in Landstuhl, Germany. He returned to the United States earlier this month, and had been receiving treatment at the Brooke Army Medical Center on Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston.
The Pentagon would not reveal Sergeant Bergdahl’s precise location “in order to safeguard the reintegration process.” But an Army spokeswoman said that he would remain at the base. She said his release from the medical center was part of the normal progression of the counseling.
He will be exposed to more people as part of his treatment, the Pentagon said.
