Oil prices rise due to unrest in the middle east; what a surprise, who could have predicted that? Can we have the northern link to the Keystone Pipeline now? We already have 2.5 million miles of pipelines, so what’s the problem?

NO! Refining and burning dirty hydrocarbons is still bad for the environment. It is time to shift to cleaner alternatives so that humanity will still be around in a couple hundred years.

You’re not going to stop the oil from moving into the market, they move it by the unsafe method of rail. Pipelines are safer and more efficient.
Environmentalists are short-sighted as to the need for petroleum in the manufacturer of other products. Feel free to dispute any on this list.
One 42-gallon barrel of oil creates 19.4 gallons of gasoline. The rest (over half) is used to make things like:
