WANTED: 2014 Slogan For Congressional Democrats

Bumper sticker politics. Love it or hate it you can’t deny that a catchy slogan can make or break an election cycle.

When it comes to Congressional elections being swayed by memorable catchphrases two recent years stand out. First the was the 1994 “Contract With America” launched by Newt Gingrich and his Republican colleagues; a to-do list of mostly symbolic gestures which propelled the GOP into House Control for the first time in decades. The Democrats saw similar success in 2006 with their “Six for ‘06″ campaign which surprised everyone by leading them to a House Majority.

With the 2014 off-year elections a few short months away Republicans seem set to use the tried and true “Obamacare sucks and Benghazi does too” meme to turn out their base in their newly unveiled “Drive for 245”. Democrats however, have yet to reveal their strategy. In order to repeat their success of eight years ago they say they will also launch a flashy new campaign catchphrase. For the time being we can only speculate what it might be.

House Democrats face major headwinds as they head into November’s elections. To win back the lower chamber, they would need to pick up 17 seats – a tall order in a mid-term cycle when the party of lame-duck presidents has historically fared poorly. Compounding their problem, President Obama’s approval rating hasn’t topped 50 percent in roughly a year.

Democrats this year have not yet said what their campaign slogan will be, nor have they indicated which policy points it will feature. But several domestic priorities they’ve been pushing for many months seem likely to make the cut, including a hike in the minimum wage, an extension of emergency unemployment benefits, an overhaul of the nation’s immigration system and a focus on boosting the status of women in the workplace. It likely will not be released until after Labor Day when voters are paying more attention to campaign politics.

Likely to be another low voter turnout in the fall. When do Dems get it that the same old messages are not going to get people out especially when so many of us are fed up with both parties. “Lesser of two evils” candidate rerun?

How about….”If you let us win the majority in the House, we promise not to let Nancy Pelosi be Speaker?”

Its a 2 way game… take a seat behind your assigned color and be ready to take over where the last party left off.

The Democratic Party – not the Republican Party since 1828.
