Packing Heat In The Pelican State
The House voted 79-12 to back the bill by Franklin Sen. Bret Allain, a Republican who argues lawmakers need the privilege because they often face threats of violence.
Under the bill, lawmakers would be exempt from a law barring concealed weapons in most public buildings. Like judges and district attorneys, lawmakers would be able to enter courthouses and state offices armed, provided they go through annual training.
A law like this would have made it so much easier for Dan White to assassinate SF Mayor Moscone and Harvey Milk.
Anyway, the best part is yet to come:
The House criminal justice committee sought to also require lawmakers to go through a psychiatric test, but that requirement was removed on the House floor with an amendment from Rep. Jeff Thompson, R-Bossier City.
Good thing that the insanity clause was removed, it being Louisiana and all. They’d never sell another conceal-carry permit.

But they still aren’t allowed to carry in the Capitol building. How telling is that?

Very good point. After all the ranting about how politicians need to be subject to the same laws as everyone else, it is an interesting paradox.
If people who work in restaurants and shopping malls must do their jobs in an environment where people are openly carrying weapons, then so should the legislators who create those conditions for restaurant and shopping mall employees. .
