The mass shooting at the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB) has assholes named Joe coming out of the woodwork, but the biggest so far might just be an asshole named Joe who isn’t actually named Joe. Former GOP debate mantra and not-actual-plumber Samuel Wurzelbacher/Joe The Plumber crawled out of a hair clog somewhere to deliver this important message, via an “open letter,” to the families of those slain by Elliott Rodger: “Your dead kids don’t trump my Constitutional rights.”
Actually, he’s not talking to the families of the victims who were stabbed, he quickly points out, just to the ones who were shot to death. To them, and mainly to grieving father Richard Martinez, Joe says he has a huuuge sad about their loss, BUT:
As harsh as this sounds – your dead kids don’t trump my Constitutional rights.
Mr. Plumber goes on to explain… well, who gives a shit, really. He makes various expressions of sympathy-but, recites the requisite gun-nut jargon, shits on President Obama, and calls it a day.
No matter which side of the debate over gun violence you come down on, the first thing that probably came to mind when you saw Joe’s message was probably something along the lines of ” What kind of person does that?”
Even the NRA has the good sense, if not the good taste, to keep its fucking yap shut for a couple of days after a mass shooting. A cynical person might think that Joe was capitalizing on this tragedy to attract more attention to his cause, perhaps even exploiting it. Even a truly bad person would have trouble coming up with a statement half as cold and shitty as that one.

Guns are the result of a technology researched and developed for killing people in a time of war. Their borrowed use for sports or target shooting does not make them any less effective at causing pain, injury or death, if they shoot metal projectiles. Even paintball guns can be dangerous, which is why people wear safety equipment when “sporting” with them.

I live in Chicago and I can tell you we have one of the most strict gun laws around. Unfortunately it doesn’t do any good if somebody wants to drive 30 minutes into Indiana, buy a firearm (no background check required) and bring it back into Illinois.
It’s not the color of one’s skin that’s responsible for the gun problem. It’s the fact that guns are so readily available in red states, and irresponsible merchants/owners who are willing to sell to anybody who has the cash.

Conservative Whites are seeing the much bandied about for decades “Assimilation” of all races, religions, and lifestyles getting a foothold of power and the era of White control in America is ending. That power slipping through their fingers is frightening and unsettling. Guns are the result of a technology researched and developed for killing people in a time of war. Their borrowed use for sports or target shooting does not make them any less effective at causing pain, injury or death, if they shoot metal projectiles. Even paintball guns can be dangerous, which is why people wear safety equipment when “sporting” with them.

I live in Chicago and I can tell you we have one of the most strict gun laws around. Unfortunately it doesn’t do any good if somebody wants to drive 30 minutes into Indiana, buy a firearm (no background check required) and bring it back into Illinois.
It’s not the color of one’s skin that’s responsible for the gun problem. It’s the fact that guns are so readily available in red states, and irresponsible merchants/owners who are willing to sell to anybody who has the cash.

If permits are required they could not be arbitrarily refused although carry-permits might have justifiably greater restrictions. I think people similarly should be able to own hunting weapons. In NYS our law, the Sullivan Law, is too restrictive and will eventually be judicially struck down.
But all that said—NOBODY SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO OWN ANY WEAPON THAT HAS ONLY A MILITARY OR POLICE PURPOSE. PERIOD. Those of us who are for gun control aren’t for total personal disarmament but we are for controls that will CONTROL ownership of weapons so we have a safe and sane society — which we don’t now thanks to the NRA and its fanatical adherents.

2.) The People have the right to freedom of religion as long as that religion does not differ or contrast the Liberal Authoritative Code (only Christianity applies).
3.) Only the Government and police forces shall own or possess any type of firearms. We the People must stay subservient to all police and Government officials. No exceptions!
4.) The People shall put the rights of criminals above and beyond those of any victim, as the criminal in ALL cases is the victim.
5.) There shall be no foul words spoken of Barrack Hussein Obama. Anyone who speaks or criticizes in the least about the King of Lies shall instantly be labelled a racist!
6.) We the People must dutifully keep like-minded and never question the Liberal Authoritative Code. We are to be one, and one alike to be equal and fair at all times although it’s acceptable to secretly feel superior.
7.) Although false admiration and praising of all minorities is highly encouraged (especially in public or in front of others), never should a liberal neighborhood be in close proximity to any ghetto, hoodlum, or otherwise undesirable part of town.
8.) Always detest those who have done well for themselves for they have not given their hard earned spoils to you freely. However, a rich liberal is acceptable because only rich liberals are good people.
9.) Always boast loudly of your intentions and goodwill to help those unfortunate around you even though it’s not mandatory by the Liberal Authoritative Code to actually do anything. Preaching to others how you “care” more than anybody else is good enough. Don’t forget to pat your own back for job well done.
10.) The Golden Rule of Liberalism: NEVER SPEAK THE UGLY TRUTH WHEN YOU CAN HIDE IT BEHIND A BEAUTIFUL LIE.
