About Time: American Military Using American-Made Flags

You may be surprised to learn that the military was frequently using flags that were made in China. And please note that it took a Democrat to stop it:

American flags made in China are now banned from being flown over military bases or being carried in processions, thanks to a new law signed as part of the 2014 omnibus appropriations bill.

The legislation, which requires flags purchased by the Defense Department to be made in America, was proposed by Rep. Mike Thompson (D-Calif.), according to CBS San Francisco.

“I thought it was appalling our Department of Defense would have flags made in other countries,” Thompson said, according to CBS. “But it’s also important because we need to be making more in America.”

According to Fox News, a similar bill that called for all government agencies to only use flags made in America was not passed, meaning federal buildings can still fly flags made in China or other places around the world.

That needs changing. So does the fact that many military uniforms are still being made overseas. Now that’s a jobs program the Republicans could get behind – or not.
