Since the onset of the Great Recession, Republicans have taken to blaming regulations for the lack of jobs.  A new book (disclosure alert: I wrote a chapter) examines the question of the relationship between jobs and regulation in detail.  A one sentence summary:

The complexity of the relationship between regulation and employment necessitates both careful analysis and caution in making the kinds of exaggerated claims that are frequently advanced in popular political discussion.

Stuart is a professor and the Director of the Public Policy
program at the Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers
University. He teaches economics and cost-benefit analysis and studies
regulation in the United States at both the federal and state levels.
