Dereliction Of Duty: Sheriffs Ignore Gun Laws

It seems many who defend our laws don’t want to follow them themselves. Not if it disagrees with their Conservative sensibilities anyway. Last week we had a sheriff who refused to lower the flag in respect for Nelson Mandela and now we learn that gun laws will not be enforced by some conservative law enforcement officers.

Some sheriffs, like Sheriff [John] Cooke, are refusing to enforce the laws, saying that they are too vague and violate Second Amendment rights. Many more say that enforcement will be “a very low priority,” as several sheriffs put it. All but seven of the 62 elected sheriffs in Colorado signed on in May to a federal lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the statutes.

This is part of a disturbing trend among Conservatives.  If they don’t like who is voting, they change the rules on who can do so.  If they disagree with the new healthcare law, they refuse to allow their citizens to access it. If they don’t want to lower flags or enforce gun laws, well Conservatism comes first. Eric Holder, it’s your move. Do the laws apply to everyone or just those outside the Conservative Movement?
