Conversations between the House and the White House are basically over, and it appears as though the Senate will have to step in to end the government shutdown.

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) told House Republicans at a morning conference meeting that there has been little progress in negotiations with the White House.

Other members said talks had now shifted from the House to the Senate.

“The focus is now on the Senate cloture vote and the Obama-Collins deal,” said Appropriations Chairman Hal Rogers (R-Ky.).

He was referring to centrist GOP Sen. Susan Collins (Maine), who has formulated a plan to raise the debt ceiling until Jan. 15, and to fund the government for six months.

HuffPo‘s Sabrina Siddiqui adds a few more details:

House Republicans said Saturday that the White House has rejected their offer to temporarily increase the debt ceiling and open the government. … “I’m disappointed that the president has rejected the offer that we put on the table,” Cantor told reporters after the meeting. “I know that he’s trying to see which Republican senator he can pick off in the Senate. I hope that the Senate Republicans stand strong so we can speak with one voice.” …

Rep. John Fleming (R-La.) paraphrased Boehner’s message to the conference as, “Every offer we’ve made, they’ve just turned us down.”
