Shaking Bad! Dangerous New Trend in Meth Production Explodes Across Nation

The Hit TV Show ‘Breaking Bad’ may be shattering cable ratings but a new method of making Meth Amphetamines is literally exploding across the nation.

‘Shake-and-Bake’ meth is made in a 2 liter soda bottle.  A number of unstable ingredients are shaken vigorously until one of two things happen: the deadly drug is created or a violent explosion occurs. Too often the latter scenario unfolds and dozens have been badly burned by the combustible compound.

“It’s a really insane method of doing it,” said Jeff Moore, executive director of the sheriffs’ association in South Carolina, a hotbed for the portable meth labs. “Either you cook it and you get meth or it blows up and you get burned.”

The attractiveness of this to meth cooker is the relative ease in the process and low costs involved.  Only a few pseudoephedrine pills are needed for the ‘shake and bake’ process rather than the hundreds required in the tradition mean of production. A soda bottle and coffee filters are the simple accessories needed by the cookers although nerves of steel and good health insurance is probably also a good idea.
