Homeland Security suspends travel ban; visa cancellations reversed

Posted by | February 4, 2017 10:53 | Filed under: Politics

Just crossing the wires, via CNN:

The Department of Homeland Security said Saturday it has suspended all actions to implement President Donald Trump’s immigration order.

“In accordance with the judge’s ruling, DHS has suspended any and all actions implementing the affected sections of the Executive Order entitled, ‘Protecting the Nation from Foreign Terrorist Entry into the United States.’ This includes actions to suspend passenger system rules that flag travelers for operational action subject to the Executive Order,” DHS acting press secretary Gillian Christensen said in a statement.
She said DHS will resume inspections of travelers as it did prior to the signing of the executive order.
Trump’s order bars citizens of seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the US for 90 days, all refugees for 120 days and indefinitely halts refugees from Syria.
Also, a State Department official tells CNN the department has reversed the cancellation of visas that were provisionally revoked following the Trump administration’s travel ban — so long as those visas were not stamped or marked as canceled.
The State Department has said fewer than 60,000 visas were revoked since the signing of the order. It was not immediately clear how many from that group will continue to be without their visas because their visas were physically canceled.

Little donald is going to be really mad about this. His ego is being slapped around like a pinata.

Yeah, and he hasn’t yet begun finding out how obstructive his own party can be in Congress. This is completely unknown terrain for him, and he’s gonna find out you can’t get by on bluster.
You brought to mind a quote from Eisenhower, I think, where he said he’d call people in from the military or other departments and would order this and that and then find nothing he ordered gets done…..

    • granpa.usthai February 4th, 2017 at 19:43

oh yeah, well just wait until someone brings up the legal issue of the cost of illegal and unconstitutional executive orders. right now, and until the legislative branch is changed back to democrat control, there are no consequences ~ but when that day comes …

How much longer are we going to tolerate a mad man in the white house?
    Trump has to go away..

I’m probably a little optimistic, but I think he may snap before valentine’s day.

Has anyone seen much coverage of the fact that Trump’s border security executive order calls for building new prisons? One article in Newsweek referred to it as an American gulag. Given the text of the order itself, I do not see how that would be an unfair description. Here is the order itself, with no media editorializing. Judge for yourselves. Fortunately, construction of new federal detention facilities will require Congress to provide money. At least they will have to debate construction of a gulag in the bright light of day.

This is not Jade Helm style hysteria. These are the words of the Executive Order. The intention is to not only build a wall but a detention facility. Nothing in the executive order restricts the use of that facility to incarcerating those caught in the act of sneaking across the border.

Sec. 5. Detention Facilities. (a) The Secretary shall take all appropriate action and allocate all legally available resources to immediately construct, operate, control, or establish contracts to construct, operate, or control facilities to detain aliens at or near the land border with Mexico.

It’s so out in the future I haven’t given it much thought yet. I am aware of it though. I think it is a distraction. The focus should be on the here and now and the removal of little donald. Many things won’t happen once he is gone. If we aim our fire hose at every little fire tRump tries to start, we won’t stop him. We need to keep the hose pointed at the fire starter. At some point he will be so wet and miserable that he can’t start fires, that he will go away or drown.

      • arc99 February 4th, 2017 at 12:29

I do not think that unfocused anger is going to be effective. I think the only way to make him wet and miserable is to point out specific policy proposals to the people who are still blindly supporting him. Calling him p*ssy-grabber makes for great conversation in this forum. But to change the vote of someone who voted for him in 2016, we are going to need specific, factual policy proposals and ask those voters if this is what they want..

Those voters will not support his removal unless they are given a reason. In my opinion, those many things that may not happen are not distractions, they are the main event. They are answers to the question of why does Trump not belong in the Oval Office.

Like you said it has to be paid for. When they start talking about paying for it, if it gets that far, will be the time to bring it up and protest it. I have real doubts about tRump lasting that long.

with the booming economy that trump will start just any ole

            NEVER

from now, cost of everything (for whites only) will be nothing.

        • granpa.usthai February 4th, 2017 at 19:37

se,, it doesn’t matter at all that trump LOST the popular election by 3,000,000 votes. and it wouldn’t matter if it was 30,000,000 or 300,000,000 popular votes.

as long as republicans control the electoral, they’ll keep dumping out worthless 70 year old CRYBABIES on America.

people who are bringing in less than $5 million a year MUST understand that voting republican is detrimental to the very existence of their family.

      • burqa February 4th, 2017 at 18:40

I agree with you, but would add that our side needs to focus more on policies and developing, then marketing our own.
I don’t think there is much future to just attacking Trump, even though he presents us with a rich, tasty, emotionally satisfying smorgasboord of material to work with.

The reason I say that is because Trump is an unconventional politician. The Republicans gave us an example of what not to do when Superstar Bill Clinton was in office. Back then, the Republicans spent so much time and effort trying blatantly to dig up something incriminating on Clinton personally that they didn’t notice much when Clinton outmaneuvered them to get what he wanted passed, he got reelected and the American people kept on loving him.
Jeering at Trump is certainly good sport, but we need to be pressing a campaign that tells the American people about the superiority of our views. We’ve got to get to their heads and then their hearts with likeable policies and candidates.

During the campaign I repeatedly pointed out that Trump was strangling Hillary’s campaign here and elsewhere. We need to get the initiative back and get the conversation to be about ideas and policies – and the superiority of ours over theirs.

So much for a legal department in the trumpster admin before an executive order goes into effect.

    Scary stuff

Donnie’s quest to create a fascist regime isn’t going quite as smoothly as he had hoped.

It’s a tad disingenuous for Trump to claim that he embraces “America First” when he clearly has no clue about the fundamental values that form the foundation of Americana.

Well that didn’t last very long.

I’ve been entertaining the notion of invading a few right-wing sites to complain about what a rinky-ding ban this turned out to be, bitching that this isn’t what Trump promised in terms of banning all the Muslims and it’s not what I voted for….

      >> I’ve been entertaining the notion of invading a few right-wing sites

I occasionally post on conservative web sites. Despite not violating any rules, I get banned. Sometimes after just a post or two.

  10. granpa.usthai February 4th, 2017 at 19:48

he could always try putting a ban on white folks from traveling in the south.

    would that help?

  11. Mensa Member February 4th, 2017 at 21:49

    Morality and legality aside:

    Trump’s executive order is incompetent.

This ban won’t slow down the terrorists for a second.
