TRUMPED! Judge grants stay of Trump immigration order

Posted by | January 28, 2017 21:47 | Filed under: Politics

The former reality TV show host discovers the balance of powers:

Judge Ann Donnelly of the U.S. District Court in Brooklyn granted a request from the ACLU to stay deportations of those detained on entry to the United States following President Trump’s executive order.

And only minutes after the judge’s ruling in New York City, another came in Virginia when U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema issued a temporary restraining order to block the removal of any green card holders being detained at Dulles International Airport for seven days. Brinkema’s action also ordered that lawyers have access to those held there because of the president’s ban.

After a brief hearing in front of a small audience that filtered in from a crowd of hundreds outside, Donnelly determined that the risk of injury to those detained by being returned to their home countries necessitated the decision. She seemed to have little patience for the arguments presented by the government, which focused heavily on the fact that the two defendants named in the lawsuit had already been released. At one point, she visibly lost patience with a government attorney who was participating by phone.

Donnelly noted that those detained were suffering mostly from the bad fortune of traveling while the ban went into effect. “Our own government presumably approved their entry to the country,” she said at one point, noting that, had it been two days prior, those detained would have been granted admission without question.

“At one point, (Judge Ann Donnelly ) visibly lost patience with a government attorney who was participating by phone.” Was that atty John Barron, faux news juris doctor? https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/4a70620bbbdfbc469ddb182f6714f531494c7c419cc569f0035d7eb272287f14.jpg

It seems to me that the people being detained and facing deportation are being vetted. This was an expected part of the process. This phase will pass quickly.

You mean RE-vetted… but you’re still wrong. They were already vetted – hence, the green card issue. This isn’t a re-vetting… it’s called a ban because that’s what it is. A ban. The two words are not synonyms, and they ain’t spelled the same. So Reichsmarschall Trump disagrees with your assessment. As, apparently, the judges disagree.

do you think people entering into this country just sit at the damn airport for nearly a year to be vetted? think before you speak.

      • StoneyCurtisll January 28th, 2017 at 23:17

Totally Extreme vetted…(what ever the means)..:)

foreign nationals who do not have a visa already stamped in their passports are detained and sent back to the country of origin on the next available flight.

    • granpa.usthai January 29th, 2017 at 01:20

the people being detained were being detained by EO(?) signed by donald j. trump (R).

vetting for foreign nationals usually takes place through the embassies that don’t need ambassadors anymore before they’re granted a visa to enter.

apparently (as usual) citizens of Saudi Arabia will be exempt.

The individuals who were detained in NY ALREADY held visas from the U.S. government which gave them permission to enter the country.

I wonder if this whole process being used as a recruitment tool for the terrorist is an expected part of the process? Does tRump want more terrorist in the world? Is that how he is planning on becoming a dictator, by creating a lot more fear and using it to gain more power? Seems to me we are marching, no running as fast as we can into a dystopian future. Is this all an expected part of the process?

Republicans elected this impulsive, babbling buffoon based his hyperbolic rhetoric and his tendency to blurt out outlandish policy positions before thinking them through.

Well, you know the old adage:
Be careful what you wish for.

I’d like to know who is really the one behind writing all the orders he’s signing. It’s certainly isn’t Trump. Why don’t we know what our government is actually doing and who is doing it?

    • granpa.usthai January 29th, 2017 at 01:25

it wouldn’t hurt to write them in American instead of Russian.

Trump’s DHS will defy the court orders…
In a statement issued in the early hours of Sunday, the Department said: “President Trump’s Executive Orders remain in place — prohibited travel will remain prohibited, and the U.S. government retains its right to revoke visas at any time if required for national security or public safety.”
