Bill would make it legal to run over protesters ‘unintentionally’

Posted by | January 15, 2017 22:00 | Filed under: News Behaving Badly Politics

There’s an easy out.

North Dakota lawmakers recently introduced a bill that’d legalize running over protesters, as long as it’s an accident. Safe to say, it won’t find many supporters from anti-DAPL activists.

“Notwithstanding any other provision of law, a driver of a motor vehicle who unintentionally causes injury or death to an individual obstructing vehicular traffic on a public road, street, or highway is not guilty of an offense,” states House Bill Number 1203.

The text doesn’t directly mention protesters, but one co-sponsor, state Rep. Keith Kempenich (R-Bowman), explained the goal.

“[The roads are] not there for the protesters,” he told The Bismarck Tribune in a Wednesday report. “They’re intentionally putting themselves in danger.” He said the bill would shift the “burden of proof” from the driver onto the pedestrian.

If passed, the bill might affect the ongoing protests against the Dakota Access Pipeline.

I read the title to this story 5 times and I did not understand those words in that order, “make it legal to run over protesters”. I knew I was misunderstanding something, there is no way in hell that this is where we are. What the hell is going on?

We’re talking about republicans here. These are the people who talk about “2nd amendment solutions” as a way to deal with political opponents. I don’t personally have any trouble seeing them trying to enshrine mass murder in the law of the land. And when you consider everything they’ve done to prevent women from getting health care it’s hardly another full step to slaughtering people in the streets by way of vehicle homicide.

“. . . an individual obstructing vehicular traffic . . .” could be anything from a cop at an accident scene to a 90 year old grandma hobbling across the street.

The agents of the Koch brothers just don’t comprehend what the 1st Amendment is all about.

This is what a once great political party has come to. One of its elected representatives advocating the legalization of murder of those who dare disagree with their policies. Lincoln would be so proud.

Wild guess- I’d bet this guy is an Evangelical Dominionist.

It’s all about the oil profits and anyone standing in their way of them.
Though not environmentally friendly, I would suggest burning tires in the roads,
much more safer than standing in the road and getting mowed down.
I recall it worked well in New York a while back…
