You’d think NY Governor Andrew Cuomo was a GOPer

He vetoed what advocates called “the most important criminal justice reform legislation in memory.” Thanks, Andrew!

Hours before the start of the new year, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) vetoed legislation that would have required the state to provide legal assistance to poor defendants in all New York counties.
The legislation, supported by both Democrats and Republicans, would have given the state seven years to take over indigent defense from local jurisdictions, including many that have been accused of violating the Constitution by failing to provide effective counsel.
But Cuomo’s office said in a statement late Saturday that the governor would not be enacting the bill, citing the high cost to taxpayers and the failure of last-minute attempts at a compromise with the legislature.

Because you can put a price on justice – at least in Andrew Cuomo’s New York!

Despite what many may think, NY is not a true blue bastion of the Democratic Party.
If our Governor wanted to adequately fund this noble effort he could, simply by taxing the wealthiest among the citizenry…but he won’t. surprise surprise surprise.

Hmmm…I always thought that Cuomo was a part of the Bridgegate scandal…As one of the more powerful governors, I cannot believe that he knew nothing, saw nothing, and was an innocent bystander…The Accela Corridor, can be renamed the Corrupt Corridor…From upper New York, to Washington DC….the hot bed, the nest, the hive of corruption, embedded within the power structure of that part of the coast…and Wall Street giggles and celebrates their win…

He cites the high cost to the taxpayers? Whether the state OR the local communities are responsible for providing indigent defense, the taxpayer STILL foots the bill.
