She was shot Monday afternoon at Skip-J Range in Anderson, SC, while visiting friends and family for Christmas. Range members were target practicing at the time, police said.

Obviously, people who have no business having guns (can’t follow basic safety rules), have guns. I don’t own any guns, but I know that at a range, they should only be pointed at the target, which are downrange. This was not “accidental”, as stupidity is not an accident.

It’s possible to get “splash-back” when shooting at metal targets. There’s at least two vids on Youtube showing this, including one where an official at a shooting contest gets clipped, not fatally.

why in the world would they shoot at metal when there’s a possibility of ricochet?

Some people don’t know about the dangers. Other people assume it’s a one in a million chance so why worry. Part of the problem is that many states don’t require gun owners to get any training at all. NY has some of the strictest gun laws in the nation, and requires people to take a course before getting a hunting license, but if you pass all the checks to get a handgun license there’s no requirement (except in one or two counties) to get any kind of safety training.

and that makes absolutely no sense what-so-ever! and i had a train of thought that went away like, BOOM! crap-ola.

Well, what “makes sense” when it comes to the law, and to gun laws in particular, isn’t always pertinent. Laws are written by political assemblies and they are subject to myriad pressures and influences. But that’s how government works and how they’re always going to work because governments are run by people and for some reason the golden halo above their heads fades away once they’re sworn into office. /s

I haven’t looked up every county in NY. Have you? There’s 62 of them. But I can tell you that I did look up a half dozen or so near NYC and only one of them required a safety course prior to getting a handgun license.
But if you’ve checked into all 62 counties then by all means fill us in on the details.

I own several guns and have owned, shot, and carried guns since I was eight years old. I have never shot anyone. But, before this political year is over, I may get the urge.

how in the hell do you shoot someone in the eye at a gun range? i mean, aren’t they all suppose to be facing the same direction and not each other?
