Report: Russia hacked U.S. electrical grid

The hacking was at a Vermont utility.

While the Russians did not actively use the code to disrupt operations, according to officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a security matter, the discovery underscores the vulnerabilities of the nation’s electrical grid. And it raises fears in the U.S. government that Russian government hackers are actively trying to penetrate the grid to carry out potential attacks.

Officials in government and the utility industry regularly monitor the grid because it is highly computerized and any disruptions can have disastrous implications for the country’s medical and emergency services.

Burlington Electric said in a statement that the company detected a malware code used in the Grizzly Steppe operation in a laptop that was not connected to the organization’s grid systems. The firm said it took immediate action to isolate the laptop and alert federal authorities.

    I have a lot of respect for the intelligence services. But they are not infallible. Colin Powell presented intelligence data at the UN “proving” the existence of WMD in Iraq. We have seen what happens when politicians proceed too rapidly on uncertain evidence. And if the evidence of Russian hacking is certain, then why haven’t we seen it? In October 1962, Adlai Stevenson provided incontrovertible evidence of the Russian missile buildup in Cuba. Mr. Obama, if you have the evidence, why not present it and remove all uncertainty?

    As if election hacking wasn’t bad enough,now despot dons comrades can hack our power grids.Oh,who needs a secure power grid anyhow.That only has the potential to disrupt all modern life as we know it.No big deal,despot Don will tell us,let’s just move on.Maybe without communications,running water,sewage functions,electricity,and military defenses,but heh,let’s just move on and make America great again.Idiot!
