Labor pick opposes higher wages and supports automating jobs

Once again, there is a cabinet choice whose views are the opposite of what belongs in that position.

…if President-elect Donald Trump has his way, an enemy of the Fight for $15 movement will lead the U.S. Labor Department.

On Thursday, Trump revealed that he had nominated Andrew Puzder, CEO of CKE Restaurants, to be Labor Secretary. CKE Restaurants is the parent company of Hardee’s and Carl’s Jr., two fast food companies that have been targeted by Fight for 15. Puzder himself is on record as an opponent of raising the minimum wage, and has said that he would like to try automating service more service jobs in response to wage hikes.

No more new jobs for humans, just for machines and the humans that do get work will get paid less because they are competing with machines. Yup, this is going to make America great again …s

Have you noticed who works at a lot of the fast food establishments?

Historically the employees were teenagers, and the burger flipper thing was a first job….

It was an entry level job, a temporary place of passage. It was never a career choice, at least not for the educated.

But then, undocumented workers from Mexico, and points south, came to dominate the workplace. These were highly dependable workers, because they, in turn, depended on these jobs. A lot of the service industry is filled with these undocumented, and uneducated, workers. The casinos in NV have almost 100% Hispanic kitchen labor. They are here as cheap labor, because the conditions from where they come are worse than they are here…

These are the undesirable, low skill, low education, menial labor jobs…

How do you suppose the free market deals with a situation where labor costs escalate?

Smart business people find ways to lower costs.

This has been at least two decades in the making.

Automation is coming, and it’s not just fast food who’s going to feel it.

The law of unintended consequences is usually an unpleasant thing.

while the righties focus on the burger flipping jobs, 5.8 million, good paying, jobs go unfilled in this country.

The so-called “job skills gap” is a major problem plaguing the U.S. economy, and it’s a key issue that the next president will have to tackle. It’s one of the many reasons why the economy has been beset by slow growth for years.

He won’t be coming back too soon, you confused him with “job skills gap”. These types do not support any form of education so they don’t understand how having any form of schooling will help fill jobs.

            Education leads to equality.

The very last thing the righty’s want!

That would kill the republican leaders hopes for belonging to a rich oligarchy.

Cheap labor, and the demand for cheap labor is as old as mankind. Slavery is a very old concept, either forced, or unforced.

The undocumented workers who flood the country suppress wages and take jobs.

    They are slaves of circumstance.

    Employers love it.

Unskilled, uneducated Americans are losing crappy jobs to a workforce who will work harder, for less.

    There are no simple solutions.

A possible solution is to dry up the undocumented labor force.

The market will have to pay more to attract and acquire its workforce.

Libs say, “we don’t like immigration enforcement and border security. We want undocumented workers streaming into the country”

“We’ll just make the employers pay higher wages”

Hey, you know that $6 burger at Carls Jr?

Get ready to pay a lot more for it…

Taking a look at the waste sheet, and comparing the base costs of McDonalds menu items to the amount they are sold for at retail prices shows some absolutely staggering numbers on the profits that McDonalds rakes in while paying their employees next to nothing poverty level wages.

Base cost of Quarter Cheese $0.87 – Retail price $3.69 – Profit in percentage %424

Base cost of a Bic Mac $0.77 – Retail price $3.99 – Profit in percentage %518

      Base cost of a Filet-o-Fish $0.54 – Retail price $3.49 – Profit in percentage %646

It doesn’t matter whether he supports automating jobs or not. It’s been happening, and it will keep happening. Workers will have to adapt.
