WSJ calls Carrier deal a ‘shakedown’
Even the consservative Wall Street Journal sees this for what it is.
Click here for reuse options!A giant flaw in President Obama’s economic policy has been the politicized allocation of capital, from green energy to housing. Donald Trump suffers from a similar industrial-policy temptation, as we’ve seen this week with his arm-twisting of Carrier to change its decision to move a plant to Mexico from Indiana. … Trump has now muscled his way into at least two corporate decisions about where and how to do business. But who would you rather have making a decision about where to make furnaces or cars? A company whose profitability depends on making good decisions, or a branding executive turned politician who wants to claim political credit?

So instead of penalizing corporations like he said originally, Trump is now BRIBING corporations with taxpayer money.

and Carrier made out like a bandit. 7mil to stay open with 800 employees and still get to send 1300 jobs to Mexico where the labor is cheap, that’s a hell of a deal.

Trump just got totally suckered.
Real estate developers deal with town councils, zoning laws and land owners — small fish, politically.
Trump is now swimming with the big fish and he just got eaten.
He fell for the classic highball scam.
I doubt that Carrier ever intended to export that many jobs. Trump just paid them millions of dollars to export the jobs they always intended to.
