FBI gets expanding hacking powers as Senate Democrats fail to block

It will now be easier for the FBI to hack into computers.
Click here for reuse options!Democratic Senator Ron Wyden attempted three times to delay the changes which, will take effect on Thursday and allow U.S. judges will be able to issue search warrants that give the FBI the authority to remotely access computers in any jurisdiction, potentially even overseas. His efforts were blocked by Senator John Cornyn of Texas, the Senate’s second-ranking Republican.
The changes will allow judges to issue warrants in cases when a suspect uses anonymizing technology to conceal the location of his or her computer or for an investigation into a network of hacked or infected computers, such as a botnet.
Magistrate judges can currently only order searches within the jurisdiction of their court, which is typically limited to a few counties.
In a speech from the Senate floor, Wyden said that the changes to Rule 41 of the federal rules of criminal procedure amounted to “one of the biggest mistakes in surveillance policy in years.”

oh my….It seems the resistance is going to have to go underground…no computers, no twitter, nothing electronic…not even paper…no letters, no emails, nothing…Trump will use NSA, CIA, and FBI in an abusive and totalitarian way…that much is obvious..

That seems to be the risk you’re running, to live under a totalitarian Presidency. My thoughts go to whichever resistance is born during these years. :)

I hope people are willing to fight, but I have a feeling our population has gotten complacent and lazy to a degree that could be disastrous if we don’t begin holding our government accountable.

It’s not very clear to me how you would organize a resistance in a strong democracy, like yours. Probably groups working with the Party, your lawmakers, several forms of protest and boycot. In my country resistance was partly clandestine, but I don’t believe that’s your case. We were fighting a bloody military right-wing dictatorship.

Thanks to social media, that is the way to build a strong grassroots effort. I don’t want our government leading any thing, I don’t trust our politicians at all.
Gina Bousquet November 30th, 2016 at 19:47
Independent grassroots, yes, that seems smart. Some Senators like Bernie and Warren can be strong allies too. :)

Definitely but I don’t know how far or how often they are willing to travel. I would hope they could start the reach out and it would spread from there.

Yes, that’s how I see it. They have a moral obligation to start it, along with others.

Naw get right in their face make em own it like at Standing Rock, maybe all those people who protested in the 60’s and 70’s will wake up and have an old geezer’s march on Washington and shut it down.
Buford2k11 November 30th, 2016 at 16:24
some of us old geezers who did this in the 60’s are all hobbled up and cannot go out and do it so easily…my blood is boiling, and bile is rising, and I want to be there…but there is a point where we have to let the young ones take over..

be a sight to see, a vast crowd of grey heads in wheelchairs and walkers towing oxygen bottles, hell why not what do we have to lose.

Without any rich and powerful people in the media and business willing and able to step up and help form a grass roots effort to stop Trump, there will be no boundary or limit to how much he will do. Democrats are powerless and ‘fail to block’ will be all they do. Republicans have clearly shown over the past several years, nothing is unethical, nothing is out of bounds, no one is above being wiped out, hurt even killed if needed. Their mantra from 2008 is still “Let them die”…they meant it then and they mean it now. They have been waiting for this moment for almost a hundred years.

it’s just beginning folks – worms don’t get wealth without worming their way into your private lives.
