What’s with all the creepy clown sightings? One theory…

Posted by | October 5, 2016 14:00 | Filed under: Media/Show Business News Behaving Badly

Apparently, the sighting of scary-looking clowns – and posting of their photos and videos to social media – has suddenly become a thing:

Creepy clown hysteria is spreading across the United States and many have been capturing the unusual sightings on their smartphones, including a recent ‘hunt’ at Penn State University.

The @SpookyClowns Twitter account, which has amassed 160,000 followers, is sharing clips and photos of ‘scary clown sightings’. …

The alarming sightings were first reported in August, when police responded to reports of ‘creepy’ clowns trying to lure children into woods in South Carolina. Since then there have been numerous other reports and warnings from police.

Hmmm… since August. Wasn’t that around the time the Trump campaign went into full gear? We say it’s more than coincidence – and, as we often say, it would be irresponsible not to speculate!

When I was a kid Bozo was the only clown we knew about.

The live hour-long show aired weekdays at noon and featured comedy sketches, circus acts, cartoons, games and prizes before a 200+ member studio audience.

    So now what?

    • Larry Schmitt October 5th, 2016 at 14:37

Willard Scott played Bozo in the early 60’s.

There was Clarabelle, who was with Howdy Doody. But maybe you’re too young to know about that?

Hey listen Larry. When I came home from school Old Andy Star, the maintenance man at the Odeon theater was introducing Three Stooges episodes.

        hahahah

We had a producer and the sports guy at the tv station playing a ship’s captain and his first mate. Captain Almost (Hi, I’m Almost, the captain) and Barnacle Bill. The Stooges and various cartoons, along with cliffhangers.

Never heard of Emmett Kelly, Jr?

He’s like the Marcel Marceau of clowns.

    Still better than flash mobs.

    • Hirightnow October 5th, 2016 at 15:40

What about flash mobs of clowns?

      • Mike N. October 6th, 2016 at 19:11

Isn’t a “flash mob of clowns” redundant? :)

As Fox would say, “Some people say…”

  5. Jodie October 5th, 2016 at 15:59

Who knows? Most of them are actually probably harmless people wanting to scare people, because clowns are a common phobia. I don’t like violence, but I can’t say I blame someone for getting violent, because you don’t know if it’s someone just being stupid or not. And it’s creepy either way. I get up for work at 4:45…If I saw one of these when I went to put my dog out, I’d be scared to death.

    • anothertoothpick October 5th, 2016 at 16:32

It’s those crazy movies that gave us the clown phobias.

But circus clowns just want to make you laugh.

Don’t worry Jodie, those clowns are probably not Repubs that want to take away women’s rights.

      • Larry Schmitt October 5th, 2016 at 17:04

Not all clowns are Republicans, but most Republicans are clowns.

There where some threats called in regarding clowns here in Connecticut and come to find out, it was 13 and 14 year olds just hoping their schools would shut down for a day or two.

My theory, goof balls having fun and laughing at officials. The first Two were real but many imitators have followed.

  8. Hirightnow October 5th, 2016 at 19:23

It’s probably nothing to worry about…

  9. The Original Just Me October 5th, 2016 at 23:07

Halloween is coming. Clown costumes will be the biggest thing. Parents will FREAK OUT !!!!
    That is MY Prediction.

    • Tommie October 5th, 2016 at 23:36

I agree, since I had the same thought!

  10. The Original Just Me October 5th, 2016 at 23:10

    Don’t Shoot !! Clown Lives Matter !!!

  11. Tommie October 5th, 2016 at 23:38

They better be careful since one clown got chased by a guy with a machete!

  12. robert October 6th, 2016 at 02:38

I could tell a couple on YouTube are with the same guy getting freaked out while holding the camera Also notice most if not all don’t stay out of sight then call the police. I guess it’s not in the phone video prank script to do so ?
