Rudy off the rails at awards dinner
Things got more than weird at an awards event in New York City last week during which former mayor Rudy Giuliani, who had been invited to say a few words about leadership, went wildly off the rails and straight into Alt-right territory:
The event was the 40 under 40 Dinner hosted by the Commercial Finance Association at the Waldorf Astoria hotel. … [O]n Monday the CFA felt compelled to send out an email to attendees and members apologizing for Giuliani’s “unscripted personal opinions.” Less delicately, the apology was required because what CFA CEO Bob Trojan delicately termed ‘unscripted personal opinions’ would more frankly be called racist digressions, jokes and jabs. …
[An] article [in this week’s New York Observer] doesn’t say precisely what Giuliani said. But these three paragraphs give some flavor.
The remarks Giuliani made to the Commercial Finance Association Thursday have not been publicly reported. But an attendee told the Observer the crowd was “shocked” by Giuliani’s comments and that some people began complaining about his speech almost immediately after it was over.
“Rudy talked about immigration and made a really, really inappropriate comment about the quote-unquote Mexicans in the kitchen at the Waldorf,” the attendee said. “It was bad. You could hear a pin drop. I think he was looking for applause.”
A second person in attendance also recalled a remark about Mexicans coming to the country to work illegally in kitchens.
Josh Marshall has some perspective on the incident and both Rudy’s and Donald Trump’s history at TPM.

Never a good idea to mock the people that are about to serve you food.
Rudy is the top of the list of assholes.

He would be lucky if all they did was spit in his food. And he makes the assumption that everyone with a Spanish surname is a “Mexican.” Got news for ya, Rudy, lots of countries speak Spanish besides Mexico, including this one. So some of those “Mexicans” in the kitchen are probably American citizens.

He also lost another speaking engagement because of this: https://commercialobserver.com/2016/09/giuliani-kicked-to-the-curb-by-icsc-nyc/

As mentioned on a previous thread, I expect us to hear that Rudy has some sort of health condition effecting his brain. And I don’t say that as a joke; people with health issues such as a brain tumor often exhibit this type of irrational behavior.

Or sometimes they are just irrational by nature. I suspect it has something to do with Trump. His personality is so yuge, it takes over the personalities of others if they get too close. Like the Blob.

Resistance is futile.

It must be, his drooling supporters can’t resist.

Hardly shocking.
Since the beginning of the presidential campaign season, Team Trump has been attracting both proud and closeted bigots much as flies to rotting meat.

Some people are so full of themselves, they don’t know when to quit and go away.Rudy should have done so a long time ago.

Here’s a son of an Italian ex-convict and suspected Mafia mobster vilifying Mexicans in America.

and there folks is the problem. the [r]ight has adopted this as normal and have been very vocal in support of tRump, so it’s no surprise that he believed it would have been accepted by this crowd. fox caters to tRump and his “political” supporters and as always, they play to the racist.

I don’t think anyone attending the event should have been “shocked.” If they were, they either haven’t been paying attention to the things Giuliani has been saying for years, or heard them and had decided previously that he didn’t mean the vile things he has been saying. Now they know he’s as foul an individual as they’ll ever meet.

Like with your drunk right-wing crazy uncle, if you invite him, he’s gonna screw up.
