Aaand here we go.
Hillary: “Public healthcare for all will NEVER, EVER happen.”
Bill: “Unless Hillary does it… Obamacare isn’t great and we should probably just basically do what Hillary made fun of Bernie for.”
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2016/10/03/bill_clinton_reform_obamacare_by_letting_people_buy_into_medicare.html
“So here’s the simplest thing: Figure out an affordable rate and let people use that. Something that won’t undermine your quality of life, won’t interfere with your ability to make expenses and save money, and let people buy into Medicare or Medicaid.”
Some will see this as a good thing, some as underhanded… either way, I thought it was worth mentioning.
Larry Schmitt October 4th, 2016 at 14:37
It shouldn’t be that hard. We already have the machinery in place (Medicare), so just figure out how to make it available for everyone, and disconnect health care from employment.
OldLefty October 4th, 2016 at 16:31
Hillary: “Public healthcare for all will NEVER, EVER happen.”
_____
That’s not exactly what she said. We already HAVE a lot of public healthcare.
She ACTUALLY said, “”I want you to understand why I am fighting so hard for the Affordable Care Act,” she said at Grand View University after hearing from a woman who spoke about her daughter receiving cancer treatment thanks to the health care law. “I don’t want it repealed, I don’t want us to be thrown back into a terrible, terrible national debate. I don’t want us to end up in gridlock. People can’t wait!”
She added, “People who have health emergencies can’t wait for us to have a theoretical debate about some better idea that will never, ever come to pass.”
She is basing that on her years of watching the fight and the fact that a small progressive state like Vermont DID pass single payer and had to abandon it.
Kick Frenzy October 5th, 2016 at 18:26
You’re right, I paraphrased.
Maybe I shouldn’t have used quotation marks when I did it.
But that’s what she was saying… that we need to adjust the ACA and that Bernie’s ideas would NEVER, EVER happen.
Now Bill is basically saying… Sike, Bernie is totally right. We just had to make him look bad until we got the nomination.
And it’s not like Bernie would have abandoned the ACA and the people on it.
His plan was to work with what exists until he could get single-payer off the ground, including a smooth transition.
And while it didn’t work for Vermont, that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t work for the entire country as a whole, where there is a much larger populace to feed into the cost of such a thing.
My main point was that Bill pointed out the flaws of the ACA more than Bernie ever did, then proposed following Bernie’s healthcare ideas.
Just like so many points between them… she said one thing, then she switched to touting Bernie’s ideas.
OldLefty October 6th, 2016 at 08:03
Hillary is speaking from the experience of having seen this sausage made over 20+ years.
Again, one has to ask why a progressive state like Vermont passed single payer and abandoned it.
If if can not work in Vermont (and I am not talking about the actual program, I am talking about getting it through 535 members of Congress (many of whom believe that ANY government help is “immoral”) and signed by the president)
Meanwhile;
Why aren’t Hillary and Bernie pushing the public option?
https://newrepublic.com/minutes/127487/arent-hillary-bernie-pushing-public-option
What Bill actually said was, “I think his health care bill has been a remarkable success for 25 million people, and for getting rid of pre-existing conditions, and the problems with it show why the president was right to recommend a public option in the first place because the only real problems I can see with it are small businesspeople and individual working people just above the subsidy line are having. Why is that? Because they’re small, they’re independent, they do have any market power vis a vis the insurance companies, and that’s why Hillary said, “The change we need is not to wreck this thing and repeal it. It’s done too much good. The change we need is to create an affordable option for the small business people and the working people who are not covered ― that’s what the public opinion is about.”
He did not propose Bernie’s healthcare ideas.
While I am ideologically with Bernie, I am politically with Hillary.
I think that Hillary can get more done in small step than Bernie could.
Kick Frenzy October 7th, 2016 at 01:01
First, that’s the thing.
Hillary is only aiming for those small steps, so she may get them done… but then she’s happy with those small steps.
Bernie wants big steps… and in aiming for those, he would hit those small steps.
The difference is, they’d be along his way instead of the goal line.
And that’s not what I was referring to with Bill Clinton.
I’m talking about this,
“So you’ve got this crazy system where all of a sudden 25 million more people have healthcare, and they’re out there busting it sometimes 60 hours per week, wind up with their premiums doubled and their coverage cut in half. It is the craziest thing in the world. So here’s the simplest thing: Figure out an affordable rate and let people use that. Something that won’t undermine your quality of life, won’t interfere with your ability to make expenses and save money, and let people buy into Medicare or Medicaid.”
OldLefty October 7th, 2016 at 07:49
I believe, from watching the process for decades that getting the small steps done is the ONLY way we move forward. (Which is why I believe Bernie would have inadvertently moved us backward).
The days of BIG steps ended with LBJ, when his policies no longer catered to just the white male majority.
That is EXACTLY what I am referring to as well, which is why he says that we have to build upon it.
And again, with Bernie and single payer in Vermont.
If it can’t happen in Vermont where the legislature and governor passed it, then abandoned it how could it happen on a national level where close to half of the legislators believe that the ACA is too much government involvement?
“To doctrinaire conservatives, a government regulation that accomplishes what it sets out to isn’t a success at all; it’s a moral failure by definition. That’s why liberals will never convince them to support the ACA by pointing to its practical successes.”
https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/plum-line/wp/2016/04/18/obamacare-is-helping-a-lot-of-people-not-everyone-thinks-thats-good-news/?utm_term=.06aaa9dddd64
Don’t forget, the people did not reward the representatives for voting the way they wanted. They turned the majority over to those who opposed the will of the voters.
That is the hurdle that I think gobsmacked Hillary in the 90’s.

I can’t stop laughing…..the bitter tears flowing from the Alt-Right over the Assange Wikileaks scam is quite something. They were all up all night, awaiting for the October Surprise, in which Hillary is arrested, frog marched, and sent to Gitmo, and all they got was a sleazy scam to sell Assange’s book…

Until I saw the dates I would have sworn that was Trump’s.
Jimmy Fleck October 4th, 2016 at 15:58
Every business writes off losses this way. This is not special to Trump. Business is only taxed on their profits. That means anything that reduces their profit reduces their taxes owed. On top of that if a business has such a large loss that it consumes more than the profits for that year then the business can carry that loss to subsequent years to offset their profits until the loss is covered. These same rules were used by Clinton to reduce her tax bill in recent years and by the newspaper to eliminate their tax bill recently as well.
William October 4th, 2016 at 16:14
Well that makes sense doesn’t it? He MEANT to lose a billion dollars, flush a dozen businesses down the drain, get his yacht repossessed, and bankrupt his casinos. It all makes such wonderful business sense. Fail at everything so you can get out of paying taxes for a few decades. We should give him the keys to the national treasury as soon as possible. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/478b26f18fac1f85681336f1231af8328cb6647870427fe0f66aee26be961c72.jpg
Jimmy Fleck October 4th, 2016 at 16:27
I did not say we should praise Trump for losing so much money. I was simply explaining the tax implications of his business losses. I don’t think it is a valid complaint to say he did not pay his taxes because based on that analysis no business or individual that claims a loss to offset their profits is paying their taxes.
I personally will not be voting for either Clinton or Trump. They are just awful candidates and not worthy of a single vote.

The hits just keep on happening.
The lead prosecutor who headed the investigation into one of the favorite conspiracies for Clinton-haters has just endorsed Hillary Clinton.
http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/presidential-races/298942-gop-whitewater-prosecutor-endorses-clinton
Former Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff is backing Hilary Clinton over Donald Trump for the White House.
Chertoff’s support for Clinton, the Democratic presidential nominee, is notable not only because of his work for President George W. Bush’s administration but because he was a Republican prosecutor who led the congressional investigation into the Whitewater controversy involving the Clintons’ real estate investments.

Relentless right wing smear.

The doctrine of Hell is rejected by most of my fellow liberals but think there needs to be a place for the real bastards.
Hirightnow October 4th, 2016 at 21:27
And yet, we’re not supposed to wish that on the “enemies of Christ’s teachings”…
I’m conflicted,publicly.
(Privately, I have my own thoughts on the matter, and have resolved to abide by the rules if I die and end up in front of Jesus…)
Mensa Member October 4th, 2016 at 21:31
In that regard, I’m a solidly liberal Christian. I don’t think other faiths (or non-faiths) are enemies. And I certainly don’t think they deserve hell.
But, there are some people who are so evil, I hate the thought of them getting a pass as soon as they die.
Hirightnow October 4th, 2016 at 21:32
I’d love to have a theological debate with you someday, which I would likely lose.
