Georgetown to give admission preference to descendants of slaves

Washington, DC’s Georgetown University once sold slaves to stay in business, and now it plans to make up for that.

Descendants of the people it sold in 1838 will nowreceive preferential status during the admissions process — possibly the first concession of its kind.

Georgetown administrators also announced on Wednesday that the school will erect a memorial to honor the slaves who built the school and publicly apologize for its involvement in the slave trade. One of the buildings that was formerly dedicated to a slave master will be renamed after a slave, and a second will be renamed after a prominent black educator. And the school will open a designated institute for people to study slavery.

The changes come nearly one year after hundreds of students rallied on campus and staged a sit-in outside President John J. DeGioia’s office, calling on the school’s leader to address racism on campus. The hostile environment, they argued, was a direct product of Georgetown’s historic ties to slavery.

I wonder what they have to say about this on fox. Wash Times has the expected quality comments. Don’t forget to shower afterwards. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2016/sep/1/georgetown-offer-preferred-admission-descendants-s/#disqus_thread

This is true history, we keep romanticizing the “creators” of our country and what they had done for “us”. There are so many others who actually changed this country to benefit all of us and not just rich, white, men. Many minorities and women were erased from history because they had to attribute their discoveries to a white man. We need to show how others have contributed and not make it information we have to seek, put it in our history books so it becomes knowledge.
