The response came after a question about the July 26 attackers who burst into a French church, forced a priest to his knees and slit his throat. The attack was later claimed by ISIS.
“I think that in nearly all religions there is always a small fundamentalist group,” he said, admitting that even Catholicism has them.
“I don’t like to talk about Islamic violence because every day when I look at the papers I see violence here in Italy – someone killing his girlfriend, someone killing his mother-in-law. These are baptized Catholics,” he said. “If I speak of Islamic violence, I have to speak of Catholic violence. Not all Muslims are violent.”

In my apartment building there are several muslim families.I talk with some of the muslim men,and when we talk about the the jihad terrorists they express to me their absolute hatred of the terrorists and how they have degraded the faith of islam in the perception of the world. They want to make sure i understand,which i do, that the terrorists have nothing to do with true Islam.My neighbors are kind hearted people who love our country as much as we do.They go to their worship services faithfully as a family unit,and their children are respectful and well behaved.I hate the bigotry some in ignorance express against others whom they dont take the time to understand!

Then they tell you that it’s irrelevant because that was years ago, the same as their support for slavery, segregation, miscegenation, subjugation of women and so on. Those people weren’t True Christians(TM), it was the True Christians(TM) that were the ones that stopped all that stuff.

Most PEOPLE hate it when you point out their history of violence.
I’m a fairly vocal Christian but I readily admit that Christians have a terrible history of violence.
But who doesn’t? Jews, Hindus, Muslims and, yes, atheists, have a terrible history of violence. IMHO Buddhism is better but even that religion has its violent extremists.
To single out one group is both hypocrisy and bigotry.

I know a lot of devout Muslims and Christians.
They both make the same claim: “The terrorists aren’t real Muslims/Christians.”
