Happy Birthday America
Regardless of how horrible the election turns out, the Republic will still stand. We are stronger than any one Yakking Yam©.
Click here for reuse options! Our political system will be tested this summer as Democrats and Republicans officially nominate candidates for presidents. On Jan. 20, at high noon, we’ll swear in the 45th president of the United States. The primary season was not a pretty one: It was replete with name-calling, dirty tricks and sexual innuendo. Once again, we’re faced with a sharply divided Congress and country. However, use this day to remember that despite our differences, the republic still stands. It’s a testament to the 300 million or so of us who believe in the basic values of this country, which got its start in July 1776.

Perhaps it’s England who’s laughing now.

I truly love this country. Sometimes I may wonder how it ever escaped being Somalia, what with every tin-pot wannabe oligarchist with more money/power/rabid followers than someone else all trying to maximize their pile of goodies at the expense of others, but I do truly love it.
Happy Birthday, America; have a cheddar brat and a hamburger…beer’s in the cooler. Chips are over there. And kudos to the founders for setting up some rules that have proven to be difficult for those wanting more control over others to weasel around.

Beautifully put!
I read the Declaration of Independence and listened to a baseball game the old fashioned way – on the radio (my Nats lost, but that’s ok).
I think you answered how we avoided being a mess – we were fortunate to have a large number of very wise people at the same time get together to fight our Revolution and then come up with a form of government that has worked better than they imagined. Jefferson was wrong when he thought we’d need to have a revolution every 20 or so years. Our Constitution has proven flexible enough to adapt as time goes on. It wouldn’t be able to do that without getting a proper start, being written as well as it is based on eternal principles of liberty, fairness and checks and balances to account for human flaws.
We’re not perfect, but we’re doing pretty well and we’re getting better.
Right now I am typing this a couple blocks from where Madison, Mason, Wythe, Jefferson, Washington, Pendleton and Monroe used to meet frequently to hammer out some of the early documents our Constitution is based on – the Virginia Statue of religious Freedom and the Virginia Resolves.
It’s pretty awesome to see homeless people being fed at the same church that George Washington attended.
I wish everyone had these kinds of daily reminders of where we came from. A direct line beginning at where we came from, going to the present, will continue on a line we can see to some degree and get an idea of where we are headed.
I’m really pleased to share this country with you, Highrightnow and my fellow Americans…..

May you all forget the worries today and just celebrate USA, USA, USA! :) :)

There you go again, being extra super-nice…………..again…….
Gina Bousquet July 4th, 2016 at 18:37
While you, as usual, a gentleman… :)

Awwww, shucks, Ms. Bousquet …
[burqa’s face gets red as a beet so he looks down while clasping his hands behind his back, arms straight, while his body twists from side to side and he absentmindedly kicks at an imaginary pebble with the side of one foot]
… you got me so charmed I can hardly think straight, other than how natural it is for a lady and a gentleman to get along together….
Gina Bousquet July 6th, 2016 at 14:06
The lady is delighted with the courtesy, but, hélas, there’s reality to consider… :)

IT’S THE FOURTH OF JULY!
CELEBRATE AND REJOICE!
TIME TO GIVE YOUR LOVE OF COUNTRY A VOICE!
BUT PLEASE DON’T BE DISMAYED
IF NOT ALL FEEL AS YOU
JUST SHOVE THAT FRANK INTO YOUR MOUTH
AND THEN CHEW
AND FOR THOSE PITIABLE FEW
WHO WHO THINK WE’VE LOST OUR WAY
JUST IMAGINE IF YOU WERE “BACK IN THE DAY”.
YOUR TAXES WOULD, WITHOUT A DOUBT, BE MUCH BIGGER
(ALTHOUGH, YOU WOULD STILL BLAME IT ALL ON THE N****R)
YOUR CHANCES OF DYING WOULD ALSO BE HIGHER
(NO MATTER A SALK FAN, OR VACCINE DENIER)
AND YOU’D NEVER KNOW
WHAT YOUR NEIGHBOR HAD THOUGHT
BECAUSE YOUR NEWS WOULD COME FROM A SOURCE THAT WAS”BOUGHT”.
SO QUIT TRYING TO BLAME OUR LAND’S WOES ON SOME QUEER
OR OBAMA, JUST SIT BACK AND DRINK A COLD BEER;
BECAUSE ONE OF THESE DAYS
WHAT YOU WANT MIGHT COME TRUE
AND THE WORLD WILL DELIVER A HUGE “YEAH, FUCK YOU.”
WOULD I WEEP IF THAT HAPPENED?
OH YES, TO BE SURES
BUT AT LEAST I’D ENJOY KNOWING
THAT YOU WOULD GET YOURS.
(AM I MAD AT SOME “PATRIOTS”?
DAMNED RIGHT; BEST BELIEVE IT.
BUT AS YOUR DADS LIKED TO SAY;
“AMERICA: LOVE IT,OR LEAVE IT.”)

You lost me as soon as you hit the caps lock…
Hirightnow July 4th, 2016 at 20:14
I was trying to appeal to the average RW troll.
Should I have said something about “SocioMarxist-loving Commie Democraps”?
DogsRgoodpeople July 5th, 2016 at 00:33
I’ll bet a lot of the founding fathers would have loved smoking some good weed.
Buford2k11 July 5th, 2016 at 00:41
ummm…Didn’t you ever hear of Ben “don’t bogart that joint” Franklin? He is in all the history books..
burqa July 5th, 2016 at 19:06
If they didn’t then, I bet they’d like having some now.
George Washington made whiskey at Mount Vernon. Several years ago they reproduced his still and now they sell whiskey made there from George’s recipe….

On a beautiful July evening, I sit with a friend under his massive Black Lambert Cherry tree…we are listening to a live band playing in the city park, a half block away, and enjoying the warm breeze that is gently moving the branches of this tree…there are groups of dark red, almost black, cherries, hanging just within reach…I reach up, time and time again, snagging, wrestling these little nuggets of Mother Nature’s True Love…Little bits of natural candy…a sweetness that cannot be matched by any other fruit…a flavor that cannot be described…on and on and on, I only stop when my appetite for such a delicacy has been satiated…I did this despite knowing that I will spend the next 24 hours near or on my toilet…such is the joy of Mother Nature…

I like how they yearn for the 50s, a time before civil rights or the birth control pill and a decade that featured 3 – count-em – 3 recessions…
