Republicans moving on gun issue
There is a crack in the armor, so to speak.
Click here for reuse options!…the fact that a legislative response remains elusive does not mean there has been no movement on the issue. Members of both parties say they sensed a shift in the gun debate after the mass killing in Orlando, Fla., a notable difference in attitude from the reaction on Capitol Hill after previous horrific shootings.
Eight Senate Republicans joined with 44 Democrats on a Republican-proposed compromise that would deny people on two different federal watch lists the ability to buy weapons unless they could successfully appeal that decision. Several other Republican senators showed some willingness to accept new restrictions on gun purchases if they could be structured in an acceptable way. A bipartisan companion measure also was introduced in the House.
These are incremental steps, but in the gridlocked world of gun control politics, they count for something.

Repubs lost their gun lobby conservative majority SCOTUS. GOP presidential bid losses loom large taking down their Senate and house majorities as well.
1) “Do you favor (55%) or oppose (42%) stricter gun control laws?”
2) “Please tell me whether you would generally favor or oppose each of the following proposals which some people have made to reduce the amount of gun violence. …”
92% Favor “A background check on anyone attempting to purchase a gun in order to determine whether the prospective buyer has been convicted of a felony.”-8% Oppose.
3) 54% Favor “A ban on the manufacture, sale and possession of semi-automatic assault guns, such as the AK-47.”-44% Oppose.
4) 54% Favor “A ban on the sale and possession of equipment known as high-capacity or extended ammunition clips, which allow some guns to shoot more than 10 bullets before they need to be reloaded.”-45% Oppose. CNN/ORC Poll. June 16-19, 2016. Adults nationwide. 5) 85% Favor “Preventing people who are on the U.S. government’s Terrorist Watchlist or no-fly list from owning guns.” http://www.pollingreport.com/guns.htm

Sounds like “We the People” have spoken. It’s time we take that phrase back from the Tealiban.

I’m pretty sure those few Republicans are all looking at tough Senate races in the fall. This will all be delayed until when or if they win, but it sounds good for them during the race.
